Apparently distracted enough to let himself get beaned by a piece of candy, Luther started slightly when it made contact with his skin and belatedly tried to swat it aside, too late to make any real difference unfortunately. It did the trick of breaking him free from the dense cloud of thoughts that had been circling his head, though, and he ran a hand back over his shaved scalp as his eyes followed Connor's standing up and moving over. There was enough room on the bed that he didn't need to shift over to make space for his friend, but he drew the closer leg up to set his bare foot on the sheets anyway. Just acknowledging his presence. Connor putting aside Grey's must mean he had something serious to say, after all. The least he could do was listen.
And he did. Listen, that is. If he hadn't been, he wouldn't have started frowning as soon as Connor started on Nikki. He'd been hearing this spiel the whole time that she was here, and he felt pretty sure he'd made his feelings on the matter pretty clear. "Don't start on that again." He got it. He really did. Irrationally, he did trust Nikki, but he knew better, too. In moments like that -- when her life was in danger and he was the only person who could step up to save it -- he would probably always put aside his understandable distrust and rely on their connection to ensure that things would turn out okay, that was true. But he wasn't about to call her up and invite her over to dinner with them. Or worse. "I don't wanna hear you talk like that. I know the situation with her family, believe me. I'm the reason her brother's crippled and I'm not about to forget that any time soon, even if she'd let me." Curling up into a sitting position, he stared intently at Connor. Trying to decide how much he even wanted to say.
"I wasn't thinking about her anyway," Luther confessed after a moment. "It was weird as hell having her here and I'm glad she's gone, but I haven't been sitting here thinking about missed opportunities or some shit like that. Give me a little credit, Connor."
