Who: Zeus and Hera
What: Dinner
When: Wednesday afternoon
Where: The halfway house/Hera’s Office
Warnings:
Zeus hadn’t seen Hera since she deposited him in this dump almost three weeks earlier. As a result he was beginning to panic. Had she left town? Had she forgotten him? He was climbing the walls with fear and the monotony of this place. It helped the addicts, gave them structure and predictability so that they could focus on the cravings and getting well. Zeus’s body on the other hand had freed itself completely of the drugs. The memories of how good they made him feel and how they made him forget were still there but the cravings and withdrawal symptoms were long gone. Still, Zeus could easily go back if he wanted to.
And if Hera were gone, he’d really really want to.
Since Zeus didn’t have any family in the eyes of the halfway house he didn’t get to leave the property and that too was driving him up the wall. He was used to having all the freedom he’d ever want and now he felt like he was being confined like a recalcitrant child.
Zeus was sitting on the couch staring at the door. He was only at the halfway house because Hera wanted him to do this. It was for her that he was suffering through group and individual counseling sessions that made him want to commit murder but if she was gone what was the point in staying here? If she was gone from his life he wanted to get back out onto those streets as soon as possible. Zeus was rocking back and forth a bit, rubbing his hands together slowly. He had no way of contacting Hera but he did know she worked at UCLA. If he could just make a break for it, see if she was still working at the university....
The house was quiet with most of the residents either doing chores or in counseling sessions. There was some noise coming from the kitchen as a couple of residents and a volunteer prepared dinner but there was no one in the living room where Zeus was sitting. Screw it. He had to find Hera so he was leaving. Now.
He had his hand on the door knob when a volunteer came out of the kitchen. There was a moment where they locked eyes, the volunteer’s going wide and Zeus was gone. He thought he heard a shout behind him but he was running down the block where a bus was pulling up. It didn’t matter where it was going, it was going away from here. He knew LA like the back of his hand so he could easily find a way to UCLA, that was no problem. People were running out of the halfway house as the bus was pulling away and Zeus couldn’t help but smirk at them as the bus picked up speed and headed downtown. There would be cops after him but let them try to find him.
