A wickedly amused twinkle glimmered in Hera's eyes as she looked at him. "Perhaps you should consider the benefits of faith in their God. Maybe a life devoted to the redemption of the souls of sinners would be good for you. I spent several decades as a nun once when I was tired of the restrictions women suffered under. Quiet contemplation was lovely. Good for the soul, even. You should try it, sometime."
She could tell she'd hurt him, she'd seen the flash in his eyes, a pain she herself knew all too well. How many times had his dismissal hurt her? Cut her to the quick? Too many to remember. In some ways, that emotional abuse had been worse even than the chains and humiliation he'd heaped on her the few times he'd decided a more physical torment was in order. Best to keep those memories right on top when dealing with him. Otherwise it was too easy to be drawn in. She was stronger than that now. She'd learned, learned even more in this current life.
Sighing, she pushed those thoughts aside enough to be serious, just for a moment. "Why are you really here, Zeus?"
