Who: Callie Byrd and Naomi Tsou-Bones What: Telling the boss stuff and things Where: Naomi's office When: December 15, Lunchtime Why: Because Callie has some things she needs to inform her bosslady of. Rating: Lowish, I'd assume. Status: Incomplete
Callie wasn't usually the nervous type. She had nerves of steel and feared very few things outside of the loss of her family or friends. But that was just it. She wasn't worried about Naomi's reaction to the news. She was confident that her friend and colleague would be happy for her. But telling Naomi wasn't a small thing. It made it all real. More real than the morning sickness and the inappropriate breast growth and the exhaustion. It kept it from being between her and her husband and let the outside world in. And there was still too much that could go wrong. Too much that had gone wrong in the past. Somehow, she was sure that by telling someone else, by letting in the outside world, that she'd jynx it. That she'd alert the universe of what was happening and that it would see fit to take away another baby from her. She wasn't sure she could go through that kind of loss again.
But Birdy was right. She couldn't effectively perform her job if Naomi wasn't aware of her health changes and if something did go wrong, then it would be better for Naomi to know anyway. Still. She was worried.
Telling her friend the news over the internet seemed...cold. She wasn't given to bouts of over-sentimentality, but even she knew the time and place for a significant conversation. She'd stopped by the mess hall and picked up some lunches to go from Ronnie before heading to Naomi's office, figuring it was the most private place around to have the conversation. Telling Naomi wasn't telling everyone and she didn't need it to be public knowledge quite yet, after all.
"I brought it in with me, I hope you don't mind." She said, as she entered the office holding the rather large box of food.
