With Gabriel gone from the island, Catalina was kind of at a loss. She'd never in her life envisioned being a teacher of any kind (except maybe at a shooting range, if times got really tough), and she was still acclimating to being a TA on Olympus, even after 8 weeks of classes. Though she did have to admit that it wasn't as bad as she'd thought it was going to be, it was still not where she wanted to be. But very few things in her life were what she wanted them to be anymore. Her calls to her estranged/soon-to-be-ex husband largely went unanswered, and on the rare occasions that he did answer, the calls were short and ended in him asking her not to call again until after she'd signed the papers he promised she would be receiving shortly. He said it shouldn't be a drawn-out process, since they didn't have children, pets, or property. The healthiest way she could think of to manage her feelings was the same thing she'd always done to manage them: She shot things. Back in school, it had been easier to shoot arrows unsupervised, but now that she was the teacher, she had the key to the gun locker. When she wasn't in class, most of her time was spent on the Field. No classes on Monday mornings just meant that she could be out there for hours before anyone would need her. And since Gabriel had taken off the other day, she'd been spending more time out there than usual. So that's where she was: out on the gun range corner of the Aries Field, constantly checking her field of view for bystanders, and wearing the protective ear and eyewear like a good girl (she didn't want to damage her hearing or eyesight after all), a couple of handguns, an assault rifle, and plenty of ammo out on the table beside her as she stared down the barrel of a shotgun to the targets ahead of her. |
