The deed was done. Olivier was all but officially no longer her patient. It should have brought a sense of relief, knowing that she was now free to do as she pleased without having to worry about ethics, but the price of that freedom was the anxiety that came with actually doing what she wanted. And because this was entirely new territory for her, there was quite a bit of anxiety. Naturally, she'd been on dates before, but none of them had ever turned into a real relationship. Shanti had been much too focused on her career and controlling everything and guarding herself against the negatives that came with unsuccessful relationships to really allow herself to fall for someone. Not that she'd allowed herself to fall for Olivier Bonheur. It had just sort of...happened. On the outside, he was quite handsome and very distinguished. Beneath that, he was a fighter, stubborn, and far too charming for his own good. When he flirted and tried to get her to dance with him, it made her stomach feel very uncomfortable. The good kind of uncomfortable. The kind that let her know that maybe this was important. And she owed it to the both of them--perhaps him more because of his potentially limited time--to see just how important this could become. Having told Ezra that she would inform Olivier about the change in physicians herself, she finished a little paperwork in her office (because yes, she had work to do on a Sunday, what with the impromptu earthquake and all) before heading over to Olivier's like she said. She was dressed as she usually was, in a solid color dress and low heels under a coat that was belted at the waist, her hair pinned in loose curls. She definitely had not dressed that day knowing that she might end up in his presence, oh no. That would be just plain silly. Much more silly than she felt standing on his doorstep for the first time ever, waiting for him to answer. |
