Shanti was not entirely sure she was making the right decision--after all, no one, even Charlie, knew Olivier's case better than she did. But when she suggested to Ezra that she might be emotionally compromised, it wasn't really a suggestion. It was a fact. She couldn't remain objective anymore. And truth be told, part of her didn't want to. There was...something between them, and fighting it was exhausting. She'd never felt like this before, and though it scared her, curiosity and intrigue would not let her ignore the feelings any longer. So she'd had a decision to make. She had no medical superiors on the island, no one really to hold her accountable to the ethics that forbade personal relationships between physicians and patients, but even if no one would care, she cared. There was no way to be certain if she was really making the best decision for his health, and if something happened to him because someone besides her was making decisions for him, then she'd never forgive herself, but...what if she kept denying everything and he died without figuring out what they meant to each over? She had a nagging suspicion that she would regret it, possibly for the rest of her life. With Ezra's response, it was too late to take it back, so she merely busied herself with the leftovers from the quake the previous evening until Ezra came in. |
