Who: Melpomene and Thalia
What: Checking out their theatre
Where: The new theatre Hades gave them.
When: BACKDATED - August the 14th
Warnings: None
Hestia was watching Helen, and Hades would show up there shortly to assist and get a chance to meet his great niece. It was the least that Mel could offer at the moment, to help to get her daughter used to at least one side of the family. The theater trip was just a good excuse to let it happen, to pretend that this wouldn't blow up in her face.. Stepping out of her convertible, she eyed the outside of the building. They should choose some name for the theater, something special, but not obvious. Pulling out the master key, she unlocked the front door, and stepped inside, pausing to breath in the feeling of the space. It made her smile. Her theater. Hers and Thalia's. They would make it awesome.
Thalia had taken the writing pad, a pen and the biggest silly grin she could find. The last thing had not been hard, not hard at all. She really could not believe she and Mel had a theatre, having found her sister had been a joy she still had to pinch herself about to make sure she was not dreaming, but owning a theatre with Mel was like a dream come true.
She had driven there without out many detours and without getting in a car accident, even her parking had been almost flawless. She jumped out of her car, grabbed her bag and the writing pad and skipped over to the building that would house the one and only Theatre Muses.
Mel was getting caught in a bit of a daze from the head rush of being in the theater, the excitement almost making her giddy enough to be mistaken for her sister. But she heard the door behind her open, and turned to face Thalia. Barely was there time to recognize who it was before she closed the small gap and nearly tackled her sibling in a tight hug. "[It's ours,]" she whispered in awe, kissing her sisters cheek in happiness. "[We can do anything we want to it. It's ours...]"
Thalia returned the hug fighting the urge to pick Mel up and swing her around and around. ["We can do what we are born to do."] The face of Comedy was glowing with love for the theatre, the arts and her sister. ["We will be able to do everything the way we want to do it."]
"[It'll be perfect.]" She could have tangled herself up with her sister in her happiness, no trace of the truth of her domain visible except in her choice of clothing. Giggling, she broke herself free and tugged on her siblings hand. "[We will start in the main theater, in the seats.]" They had been so quick to go to the stage before, that she had almost missed what it would look like to others, to an audience. "[We will need to choose a name.]"
Thalia walked with Mel, she was not going to disagree with her sister because an audience was as important as performers. No audience, no theatre. ["We should test if they are comfortable."] You can't have the audience leave with back pain after all. ["Names..."] She thought out loud, ["Do you want to make it something old school or modern?"]
"[What about... Piera...?]" It was considered the birth place of the muses, and would lean toward who they were, but not in such a manner that would outright boast it like some names would. "[Or we could do something that would have no relation to who we are...]" There was always the old fear of the other gods finding them, but she doubted that people would assume a theater named after muses would be some big tip off. There was the Apollo theater after all. She clung to her sisters hand though as they looked at the theater proper considering different names.
Thalia smiled softly as she thought back at the happier times for the muses, before the fall. She usually didn't dwell on the past and how different life was for them now but that did not mean that she didn't miss those times, happy times with song and dance... and Apollo. She sighed softy pushing the pain of missing her beloved brother from mind, focussing on the great time she and Mel would have in this theatre.
["Piera is a perfect name."] She squeezed her sister's hand, the moment of regret about the loss of Apollo's love gone again. ["The Piera Theatre."] She tried out, thinking it would sound more then perfect. ["The Great Piera Theatre, home of great plays and comedy."]
Mel grinned at the sound of it. "[We'll be a launching point for new plays and playwrights and actors. We can show independent films too, between other productions.]" If you had a theater, might as well put it to use. She tilted her head, considering the space before her. "[Maybe we could have concerts here as well. A little bit of everything. Just like us and our sisters... A true Piera...]" Without the water and trees and nudity and everything, but at least the spirit of the arts would be there.
Plays, movies, music, art, all this was what muses live for and all this was what this theatre could house. A small tear of joy rolled down Thalia's face. She pulled Mel into a big hug, ["Life is great, isn't it?"] This would be as close to Piera as they could get in Miami.
The hug was returned in full force, the tear kissed from her cheek. "[You do not get to cry; that is my role,]" she murmured, then snuggled against her sister. "[We can even use the halls to exhibition art work, or have people do large scale art for the sets...]" She took a deep breath, inhaling her sister's scent and smiling. It was comforting to her. "[But, we'll have to start small. We can do movie night first, while we start to put a production together.]"
Melpomene was of course right, she was usually the more sensible one, Thalia was comedy and bounciness. ["These are happy tears."] She used to defend the fact she had been crying. She no longer could fight the urge to swing her sister around, so she did it with a silly grin on her face. ["We should have a movie night with comedies."]
There was a small squeak at the spinning, but she laughed and clung tight, happy with her sister's happiness. "[A double feature. A tragedy and a comedy.]" They would then need to work on getting the concessions working out front, and find out how they could project onto such a large screen, and get the equipment for the sound system if it wasn't already there... She tried not to cringe at the possible cost of it all. Would it be wrong to ask their Uncle for help?
["Double feature, just like us!"] Thalia stopped spinning her sister around and put her neatly back onto her feet, she held her sister close as she looked around the little theatre. It didn't look to bad, maybe a little bit of paint left and right, and of course a lot of cleaning and it would look good again. ["We might need some help?"] She stated, not really talking about money but help in general.
Mel nodded in agreement. "[We'll need to get a staff together for anything we don't do ourselves.]" The theater wasn't huge, so they wouldn't need a huge staff, but they would at least need some. Maybe some college kids?
Staff sounded impressive, they were going to be employers. ["We should put an add in the paper."] She finally let go of Mel and got the writing pad out of her bag. ["We should make a to do list."] She turned into her PA mode, she might be a muse and inspire Connor but in this world the called that a Personal Assistant.
"[And do an inventory. We probably only need maybe three people for right now.]" Released, she began to wander down the isle toward the stage itself, thinking of what had happened the last time she'd been there. How well had they cleaned up that mess? They would need to do it if they hadn't yet before any mortals came. "[We'll need to pick out movies, eventually.]"
Thalia quickly wrote every thing they were thinking of and talking about down, she wanted this to be perfect, not just for her but for Melpomene. ["We need to write down all that needs to be fixed too."] She said while writing that down too, when she was done writing she followed her sister toward the stage. After the birth of her little niece she had cleaned the stage, she had made sure that there was no way any mortal could get hurt.
Walking up the steps and onto the stage proper, Melpomene could witness that for herself. She smiled a bit at it, before turning her eyes away to the rest of the stage. "[I think that all the major repairs were made before it was given to us, and probably most of the minor things as well. We just have to decide what we want to it look like... but that can wait until we've been open for a bit.]" She turned to her sister. "[What are the changing rooms like?]"
The last time Thalia had been there she really hadn't paid much attention to anything but her sister and the baby. She smiled a silly smile at he sister, ["Would you believe if I told you that I don't remember."] It really was strange for a muse not to pay attention to anything related to their art but her sister's baby's birth had been more important.
It was more likely for them not to pay attention then to actually not remember. Daughters of memory, each and every one. But Mel rolled her eyes, grabbed her sister by the wrist and began to drag her toward the back stage area. "[Then we'll have to explore.]"
Again Thalia didn't fight Mel, she didn't mind being pulled toward the dressing rooms, everything in a theatre radiated power. It would even be more powerful when there were artists and adoring fans inside it's walls again. ["I was a little bit distracted last time."] She playfully defended her not knowing what the dressing rooms were like.
"[Not as much as I was,]" Mel returned, and grinned to Thalia, leading her through the space that was the open backstage and to a set of doors that lead out into a back hallway. there would be costume rooms, bathroom, changing rooms and maybe even an office somewhere in here she suspected, the question was merely finding it all. So, she looked one way, then another, and started toward the end of the hall. Start at one end, right?
Thalia had not been paying attention again, she had just enjoyed the feel of atmosphere in the theatre and almost tripped when Mel started to move again. With a very undignified 'eep' she followed her sister down the hall. Any side would be a good side to start, they would have to look at every room after all. ["How is my pretty niece doing?"]
"[Good]..." Mel answered slowly, still leading her sister down to the complete end of the hall. Ah, a stage entrance. There looked like the perfect spot for someone to sit and watch who came in and out, and a small closet space next to it. Then, a door. She tested the nob and found it locked. Quickly, she searched for her key. "[... Nick's father died though. So, she'll never know her grandfather.]" At least, not the mortal one.
Thalia looked at the door while listening to her sister. ["That is so sad."] She said softly, family was very important to her. ["Nick can tell her about him."] She squeezed Mel's shoulder gently as she kept her eyes on the door, locked doors fascinated her.
"[I'm sure most of that side of her family will. But that's why he's wanted you with me. When his father died, then his aunt started a court case saying something was too convenient about the timing, and now he's going to Greece for the funeral.]" Key out, she unlocked the door to reveal what looked like a plain theater office. Small desk, some cabinets.... and more space to fill up. "[He'll be back to his daughter soon.]"
["Lucky Nick has you and Helen."] Thalia moved into the little office and looked around. ["We should fix this up, maybe put a crib in here too so you can take Helen."] It wasn't a very impressive looking office, but that wasn't really necessary, what happened on the stage was the most important thing in a theatre.
"[Or a second desk.]" She walked in further and pushed open a small door. Tiny bathroom with just a toilet and sink, and a sliding door into a closet. Okay... that was different. Maybe it was normally a dressing room? "[We'll probably need a] computer. [Or a something to move with us for record keeping.]"
["We can use my] laptop" Thalia thought that might be easier then a big computer in such a small office. She rummaged through her purse and gout a little tape measure out. She wasn't really good at DIY but she thought she could at least try to take measurements. ["If we plan it out correctly we might be able to do it all."] Maybe that was a bit optimistic but that was the way Thalia thought.
"Or just a jump stick for all the theater things," Mel mentioned as she investigated the space, poking around and trying to decide if they should put up show and movie posters in classic theater style, or their own art work instead. She knew what she wanted in the main lobby, but this was their office. "[No matter what we choose, it should come together as we need it.]"
["You are right, we can do what ever we put our minds too."] Thalia moved over to Mel and wrapped her arms around her sister from behind, resting her chin on the other muse's shoulder. ["It will be more then perfect."] She sighed happily and contently.
Closing her eyes, Mel leaned back into her sister's touch, raising her hands to rest them on top of Thalia's. She took in a deep breath, smelling the scent of the theater, of her sister, of the things within the room, and fight down a giggle at the sugar rush like buzz that it brought. To be within a theater, he happy sister literally at her back... It was so much easier to remember that they had once called her joyful.
Thalia could feel her sister's buzz and smiled, it felt like in the old days when things seemed so much easier. Not really better, but different and easier. ["When should we open the doors of our perfect little theatre?"] She wanted it to be as soon as possible but she had to be sensible too, things had to be done first and there was one uncle that needed to get hugged as soon as she got the chance.
"[let us finish exploring first, then get things ready for opening, then decide the date.]" She hated to have to wait, but they needed to be practical.
["You are right, of course."] Thalia kissed Mel's cheek before she let stepped away. ["Let's make a to do list."] She put her note book on the dusty desk and looked at her sister. ["Do you want to paint it all? Change the colours?"]
Mel shrugged, shoving her hands in her pockets. "[I like a classic theater feel. We can paint later. Step one after we finish looking around is deciding on some shows until we can do the plays. Then staff. Then deciding if we want to do an old play or a new one, or write one. Get players... We need to decide on food and drink to sell, and order it.]" She made a face at this, and drifted back to the main door, already ready to move on down the hall. It was hard to sit still.
While Mel spoke Thalia wrote down the things they needed to do. All of it was sensible and logical, but it was always a good idea to write it down so things didn't get forgotten by accident. She followed her sister to the door. ["Let's check out the dressing rooms."] She suggested, she loved dressing rooms. The way the mirrors reflected the light, the smell of make up and costumes and of course the energy of the performers.
Automatically, Melpomene took the hand of her sister as they walked out of the door and down the hall. She paused and pushed a door open, revealing a set of stairs that probably lead to storage and some things under the stage, before letting it close again and heading on to the next one. "[We should mix up local writers and some of the classics, to get people into the theater.]"
Thalia happily followed her sister around, ["Maybe Connor can write a short comedy for us too, I am sure he could do it."] Of course she was sure, she hadn't picked him to inspire if he wasn't talented. ["What do you think?"] Melpomene's opinion was always very important to her.
She nodded. Muse project mortals should be aided. She was already planning to put Mallory's photography in the front lobby. It wasn't a gallery, but they would be prints, copies, and would get seen by a different crowd. Maybe she could even do the actor's photos for things. But that was in the future, after she talked with the mortal. Inwardly, she cringed. She hadn't do that in a while. "[That would be good. If he has some writer friend's who are interested, maybe they could each write one act plays, and we could do a collection of them.]" It would give a mix, and use already known writers.
Thalia was glad her sister agreed, not that she had expected Mel to have said no. She smiled as she concentrated on Connor for a moment sending him some inspiration. ["I am sure he knows more writers who would love to write something for our theatre."] Which artist would not love a chance to be seen?
It made sense. And Thalia was already connected with Connor... "[We'll see who else is interested. Then we'll need to find actors to fill in the roles.]" She loved and hated that part. But it would be a good way to fill in her time, and keep her from going completely stir crazy.
["Auditions!"] Thalia loved them, she loved the people and the way they all tried their best. True, some people were not talented or not suited for the parts to be given out but still, she loved the hustle and bustle of auditions. ["I can't wait."] In her enthusiasm she pulled Mel into her arms again and gave her a big hug. ["This is going to be so great."]
Mel could only smile her own agreement, and leaned into her sisters hug. Caught up again in the rush of feelings, she even planted a kiss to her sisters neck, letting it linger before nuzzling the space. "[Our theater.... one thing at a time...]" She wanted to do everything at once, to take over the stage with her sister and herself as the only performers if they had to. She was ready for the art.
Thalia pulled Mel as close as she could and smiled. ["You are right of course."] Keeping her mind focussed on one thing would be best, but dreaming about what could be would be great too. ["First things first."]
"[So, onward?]" At least out of the hallway and into a dressing room. She turned the handle of the nearest door, still holding close to her sibling. Exploration, then they would know if they needed a movie projector or not. Then they could start at least with stage one.
["Onward!"] Thalia walked with her sister, she would follow Mel everywhere. ["Movies first."] She thought that was a good idea of the other muse, it was much easier to get the theatre going with a movie and keep the plays or music for when everything was fixed the way they wanted too.
Summary: Thalia and Mel enjoy looking around their theatre together. They named it and they started making plans for the future.
