Who: Hypnos and Persephone
What: Hugs 'n love
Where: Perse's house
When: Thursday afternoon
Warning: None
Plodding up toward the hulking house of his Queen, Hypnos felt utterly miserable. He'd failed, somehow. As a member of her and Hades' court, despite their separation, wasn't it his duty to be the best he could be, to represent them in all things? He was glad for once people didn't actually know who he was. It would have been a shame on the royals. On the first step, considerably slumped and ragged-looking, he knocked.
Persephone rushed to open the door, glancing out at Hypnos on her step. Her heart sunk when she saw how despondent he looked standing there. Cooing, she reached out to hug him close, rubbing his back in soothing circle. "[Oh Honey...it's okay...]"
"[I'm sorry,]" he sighed, returning the hug, like the embarrassed child coming home after realizing they couldn't quite make it on their own.
"Oh hush," she chided, pinching his cheek. "You were too good for that silly job, anyway. Come in..." She herded him into the house.
"I served coffee. From what I hear... it's like the lowest job out there," the sleep god argued, but he allowed himself to be shuffled into the house. He waved to the spectres passing by as he did.
"I bet I wouldn't serve coffee very well either...but then from what I hear of retail, I'd have no patience for it..." And into the kitchen with them where she poured him a glass of milk and set out a tray of cookies. "Besides, I've already thought of a much better job for you."
Hypnos looked up to her and blinked. "Yes?"
"Well," she leaned on the counter. "An assistant is an assistant and, well, you know Hades and I aren't together anymore. My mother is off in the country or neverneverland, and....I need help." She sighed, running a hand over her stomach. "And you're my family so I figure I can trust you above pretty much anyone else. To help me with the baby."
"Oh, I would love--"
Wait.
"Baby?"
Blink. Well. That just meant some people could be trusted to keep their lips shut. "Hades didn't tell you?"
He shook his head. "No. I have not seen him since he thought he was dead." Then again, Hypnos was very, very forgetful.
"Oh," Dahlia replied, a blush creeping up into her face. "Well, I'm having a baby."
Hypnos paused, clearly stunned out of his gourd. Then he couldn't help letting out a squeal and hugging her tight.
She had to giggle, hugging him just as tight and petting his hair. "Well...want the new job?"
"Yes! Oh yes!" Smiling from one pale ear to the other, he nodded vigorously, a rare display of energy. "Anything you want, my Queen."
"Well good, because they say you should baby proof early on!" Dahlia said. "So there's a lot for us to do. I think Mallory will be happy to know she can spend less time with me being cranky and more with her singer boyfriend." Sigh. Men were the ultimate betrayal in any good friendship...
Hypnos chuckled and looked down towards the belly. "Gods... I can't believe this. A prince among us at last... or princess. Do you know yet?"
Dahlia was about to mention Hades' other sons, but she didn't really have the heart for argument when Hypnos was so happy. "It's going to be a girl..."
He would never say it to the king's face... but Hypnos was not sure he really considered them princes. They were precious children, yes. But they weren't the offspring of the royals. They were the product of the king and his fling. Deep in his heart, he just felt that Hades and Persephone would reunite, and soon. This was just a bad time. "I'm glad," he said with a smile. "Girls are precious."
Dahlia was beaming like any proud first time mother-to-be. She hugged him tightly, burying her face against his neck. "[It's good to have a friend in this...]" Admittedly, things had been a little lonely up to this point.
"[You will always have me, my Queen,]" he murmured, returning the hug but more gently this time. Don't squeeze too tight!
As if in response to its mother's joy, the baby in her womb gave an enthusiastic kick. Yay family hug!
Hypnos didn't feel it, but he would sooner or later. He couldn't wait to spoil this child, too. "Do you want anything now, m'lady? Food, drink?"
"I'm quite alright..." Now to say something to brighten his mood. "I wouldn't mind a foot rub though..."
"Then let's find you a seat," he said, taking her arm and leading her into the living room, toward the couch.
Dahlia giggled, making her way onto her plush sofa and kicking her feet up onto the couch.
He knelt down in front of it reverently, taking off the socks and shoes to massage her feet. "How's that?"
"Mmmmm~" She relaxed back against the couch.
That sounded like a yes. He smiled and continued to massage. If she was happy, he was happy.
Dahlia was happy, the happiest she'd been in awhile. It was the kind of happy that came with no strings attached, and that was what she liked about Hypnos. He was simple enough to make life simple.
Summary: Having lost his job, Hypnos runs to Perse's open arms for comfort and a new one!
