Who: Euterpe & Anubis
What: Plans didn't go well
Where: Euterpe's condo
When: Today
Warnings: None
His hands were covered in his own ichor. Twice he had been caught by Bast. Like a shadow that came over him and threatened to rip his life away from his body, Bast leapt upon him and dragged her claws along his tanned body. The count had almost become three times, but he had managed to avoid her, dragging the luck, fate and culture of his family between Life and Death.
It had been the only way to escape the protector and hunter of his pantheon.
Now he ran through the streets, carrying both the bovine mother and the deformed luck bringer in shock in his arms. Being between worlds had been too much for them, but now Anubis ran. Even though he was non-existent to the world of the living and but a shadow to that of the dead, his foot falls echoed in his own ears, slamming against pavement. The only thing louder was the beating of his heart; it drummed along in his chest at a maniac pace as he ran. He ran like he was still being chased because as far as he was concerned…
He couldn’t tell if he still followed. Thousands of shadows fell behind and before him. A whole world of them, surrounding him as he ran. It was only be memory and scent did he find his path. He had few places to go… few places Bast would not look… Luckily, she did not know where he had been residing… nor would she guess that much…
He phased through the wall of the apartment that had become Euterpe’s and then returned to the living world. Laying the cow-mother and her husband in an unmoving pile, he collapsed close by, wet and injured, to the floor.
When she was told that part one of the plan was going to happen, she was nervous. Of course she had wanted to argue and weasel her way into going with Anubis, but instead she had solemnly nodded - it was not her place to go on such a venture. She would only have been a hindrance.
So instead, she had found herself unable to do much of anything since Anubis left. Euterpe worried despite her efforts to keep her mind on other things. She had eaten little, did not sleep, and kept glancing out every window in the house as if she expected - or hoped - to see that it had worked out.
However, as she was taking another one of her nervous walks around the house, she had discovered otherwise. Two strangers, unmoving, were on the floor and not far was a sight that, in comparison, was worse than looking at her own missing hand.
"Anubis!" She breathed and rushed to his side, caring little for the rug burn on her exposed knees as she hit the rug floor. She said his name several times as the Muse looked him over, trying to judge the extent of his wounds - none of which looked good. "Not good, not good!"
For a few moments he remained motionless before his wet black nose began to flare as he sniffed around. He knew this scent. He did. His amber eyes opened slowly and reaching for her with a tanned hand, he missed her own hand and only absently waved at the air beside her, “Euterpe?”
His waving hand was gently grabbed and taken into her own. "[Yes, it's me. You're safe here,]" she said and took at look towards the door. She really ought to lock that... though she didn't dare get up at the moment. Anyone coming in would soon find their ears bursting and a good clobbering with random household items.
He squeezed her hand weakly as he tried to pull himself up to anything more than sprawled out on the carpet. His tail slapped the floor a couple of times before he managed to sit up, but never did he release her hand, “[But he isn't...]”
Euterpe shifted so that it was a bit easier for him to sit, leaning against her was better than nothing. "[Who isn't? What happened?]" She tried very hard not to sound completely panicked, but despite her best efforts, it couldn't all be hidden. Oh, and the carpet...
Anubis did not resist leaning against her, though he did try not to nuzzle his furry head against her shoulder and neck. Tickling her was not the answer right now. Breathing deeply, his eyes shut tight, “[Dionysus. He was captured so I could escape... Then I was chased...]”
Okay, that didn't help her already high panic level. She had to contact her father or Hera. There were probably better people to contact, but they would either be of no help or she didn't have any normal means to. "[I'll alert the family. What about those two? Are they...]" Dead? Well, they certainly looked it.
He rubbed his thumb along the back of her hand. There was little else Anubis could think of doing to offer comfort and bring down the panic. His own heart was pounding loudly in his chest and his own nerves were shot, but he glanced over at his kin, “[They're in shock. I had to shift out of the world of the living to escape Bast after I jumped into the ocean with them to erase out scent trail... They'll be okay with time.]”
Euterpe nodded. At least one part of the plan worked... sort of. She shifted enough to pluck the cell phone from the pocket of her shorts and started to send a text message. "[We need to get you cleaned and bandaged up...]"
“[He should have ran...]” Anubis whispered softly.
There. Zeus and Hera notified. They can alert the rest of the family. "[There is nothing that you or I can do about it right now other than get you fixed up. I imagine there will be people knocking at our door soon to find out what happened.]"
Carefully, Anubis drew to his shaky feet. His legs still felt like jello from the long fought chase but he managed to find them and stand. “[Only your family, I hope]”
"[Me too.]" She agreed and began to help him towards the bathroom. Get him cleaned up and in bed, then get the other two to somewhere else other than the floor. It's just hoping from that point on.
Summary: Anubis, after being chased and fought by Bast, managed to get to Euterpe's condo with Bes and Hathor and then promptly collapses to the floor. Euterpe finds him and finds out the bad news.
