Who: Vadimas Lugosi and D
What: Conspiring/Drinking
Where: Vice
When: Sunday 5/25
Warnings: Scene on the short side.
Hephaestus rolled up on Vice in his Tesla Roadster. Even when trying to look cool, he couldn't help being a huge nerd. Oh well, this nerd was hitting the club, like it or not. His jeans were faded to the tune of $300 and his silk shirt had the top button tastefully unbuttoned. His hair was gelled just enough to look like it wasn't. And most importantly, he had something like $5000 in hundreds in his billfold, just in case things turned against him. He was ready.
Tossing his keys to the valet (oh, how he hoped that that was the valet), Hephaestus studiously ignored the line of eager club goers and strode up to the bouncer, who was suitably large for the position. He was no Herakles, bouncer for Olympus, but then, who was?
"Back of the line, buddy," rumbled the bouncer, but Hephaestus noticed how his eyes followed his car as the valet drove it away. A good start.
"Come now, I come all of the way out here for a night of partying and that's the welcome I get?" Hephaestus feigned being hurt at the same time he was feigning being a billionaire playboy. The muses would be proud. The bouncer, however, was less than impressed. Hephaestus decided to lay it on thick. "I am Vadimas Lugosi, internet darling and widely known as the sexy Bill Gates. I'm sure Your boss would be more than happy to have me be seen in their club." And if name dropping himself didn't work, the 5 hundreds he was slipping the bouncer should work.
Eyeing him warily, as if he wasn't quite sure what was happening, the bouncer waved him in. Hephaestus entered the club, followed by the groans of the people in line (and one cheer of recognition).
Dionysus sighed, making his way out from behind the bar. He was dressed up to the nines, trying to put in face time at his club. He was ready to transfer management over and find a good replacement and live off the fringe profits of his club with Elton and a bunch of animals. Even a week after, his head was still not all there from that vision. It was hard to focus on work.
Hephaestus scanned the room. He had no idea what Dionysus looked like in his new mortal life. Guess he should have asked Hades about that. Oops. Hephaestus decided his best bet was hitting the bar.
Bellying up, Hephaestus caught the eye of a bartender. "Rum and coke, if you will." The bartender nodded and served up this very basic drink. Hephaestus slapped another hundred on the bar, being sure to keep his hand on it. "Some of this is for the drink, the rest is for you if you tell D I would like to meet with him."
The Bartender laughed a little. "Thanks. D's right over there, saying good-bye to this place. You can try your luck yourself."
"Oh." Well, Hephaestus felt a bit silly. "Thanks." Hephaestus left the bill on the table and walked with his drink to where the impeccably dressed "D" awaited.
D caught sight of Vadimas before he was five feet away. Call it a sixth sense for celebrity. "Mr. Lugosi....I'm pleased to see a man of your impeccable taste in my little club."
Hephaestus felt inordinately proud for a moment. He spent so much time cloistered away that he rarely got to indulge his raving egomania in person. Oh well, no time for that now.
"Well, I heard that if I wanted to have a good time, this was the place to be." Time to name drop someone else. "My good friend Dante Lot recommended this place to me." Let's see how this plays out.
"Ah! How'd you know dante?" D asked with a smirk. "Work I take it....he's a raging workaholic..."
"I actually met him in a comic book shop. He seemed to just be killing time." Ha, killing, Lord of the Underworld. "Though it turned out we were actually working on the same project, which has unfortunately fallen through."
Well, time to get down to business. "However, he said that you might be interested in a plan I'm putting together, and that you had some information I could use."
"Oh?" Hmmmm. Why would Hades be sending this man his way? "Y'know what? Lets get away from all the noise. Come on back to my office...." He motioned for Vadimas to follow him through a door labeled 'for personnel only'
Things were proceeding just how Hephaestus had hoped. "Excellent. I do like to get the business out of the way before I indulge myself." He followed D into his office, trying to think of a good way to break things to him while sipping his drink.
Dionysus shut the door behind him, eyeing the tech guru warily. "So. This project?"
"Ah yes, of course." Ah, what the hell? Just let it all hang out. "[I want to destroy the Egyptians' idiotic reverse tower. I heard you had information about it.]" Subtlety, thy name is Hephaestus.
"[Figures,]" D chuckled, shaking his head. "I have one good vision and now everyone's knocking down my door. What's your name, comrade?"
"I am Hephaestus. I think the 'tech guru' part should have given it away." It really should have. "Sorry I didn't stop by just to party, but I would really like to destroy that tower and rub it in Ptah's face. Not that it isn't great to catch up with old friends."
"I kinda figured this wasn't just a social call...." D shrugged. Pulling a pen from his desk, he began to write. "Just give me a sec to try and get all the details straight."
"Take what time you need, and know that I appreciate it." Time for some emotional truth. "It's not always easy for me to seek out members of the family, so to speak. Some of them are not my favorite people, and I have spent a long time hiding from them." Opening up a little should make D feel more at ease. Well, Hephaestus hoped. He was learning that he could not always predict his peers as easily as he could mortals.
D? D didn't care really. He was about as 'at ease' as they came. When he had finished going over the dream on paper, he handed this to Hephaestus. "Here you go."
"Excellent. I'll go over it back at my laboratory." Hephaestus filed it away appropriately, then took another sip of his drink. "Well, with business completed, I believe the night is still young." Might as well make use of a night at the club.
"So true....c'mon," D stood, slinging an arm about his brother's shoulders. "Lets get you good and drunk."
"Good to see some things never change." Despite himself, Hephaestus looked forward to it. He just hoped he didn't do anything too embarrassing.
Hephaestus goes clubbing with a purpose, while Dionysus reflects on being popular.
