Who: Hades & Mel (plus Mel's new Soap Opera Stalker, in passing)
What: Judgment and Clean Up
Where: Near Piera Theater
When: Feb 5, 2011, after the texts and previous solo scene
Warnings: -- Text Messages --
There were two things Hades would never grow accustomed to. The first was the eighty-degree weather Miami decided to give him during February. As he sat down outside the back entrance of Piera theater, he straightened his green tshirt that had gathered around his chest when he slid down the wall. The second was the headache properly judging a person - peering into their soul -- gave him. He was certain it wouldn’t be so bad if he had had the liberty to ask the man questions or if he had been doing so in a place that was a proper hall of judgment, but that was not possible today.
He’d rub his temples but he knew his helm would just block his fingers from doing so. Perhaps, he theorized as he fished out his phone under the cover of his invisibility, that maybe his headache was more the nature of the people he kept judging nowadays. It wasn’t that people were simpler back in his time but their thoughts and self-imposed identities were less absurd to him. Modern man just made him feel like he was in a one of these bing commercials.
Finally he found his phone and texted Mel, -- You can come back from your coffee break. I’m done and you should be more careful about things in the future. --
There had to be a rule somewhere that a decent little cafe was always within easy walking distance of a theater. Mel couldn’t prove it, expect by experience. She’d been sitting in the cafe, going over the script, more to look busy then anything else when her phone went off with a text beside her on the table. She flipped it open, and texted back. -- Which things? --
-- Getting people addicted to the fame you can bring them for kicks -- Hades could see the man leaving the theater from the reflection on the metal of one of the trash cans. That meant he had to get up. It meant the man had tired of waiting for Mel to return and was out to find her. It meant he had to follow the man. -- Stay where you are. We don’t want the jinx to get us, but you won’t have to wait for long. --
-- It wasn’t for kicks. We had a deal. He broke it. -- More or less. But Melpomene felt no need to add that in right now. She glanced around the cafe space, and frowned. -- Are you between me and the theater? --
-- Yes. And so is he. -- And refusing to drink the last of his water from his water bottle. Hades was certain that the man was doing so just to spite him and his just mercy. Did he want the bad end? He bridged the gap between him and the man, shaking his head to clear it from its ache. -- Stay where you are. I’m still a good distance away. --
The muse pondered the text before her for a moment, then frowned. --I should have driven him insane. Staying where I am.--
-- There was still hope for him. -- Hades watched as the man brought the water bottle to his lips, swigging from it as if it was alcohol and it would take away his frustration when it came to trying to find Melpomene. -- Hold --. He then quickly put the phone away and closed the gap even closer, grabbing the soap opera star’s foot as soon as he had swallowed the water and hi eyes had widened in confusion. The Unseen One then pulled that foot and toppled the man to the ground, watching as he crashed to the ground on nothing.
The Unseen One would let the man’s minor bruising and bit of blood from his forehead from his fall be the concern of others. He simply rolled the bottle from the scene to the nearby alley and then secreted it away on his person, making it disappear. Only then did take his phone out again. -- It’s over --
Mel finished off the last of her coffee drink, and stared into it as the final text came in. --Any idea if I should worry about him having notes at home?-- She wouldn’t ask about the details of how it was over. She could come up with more then a few choices on her own, and simply trusted her uncle to handle things as he saw fit.
Few would think putting the waters if the Lethe River into his water bottle at the right amount to only erase some of his memory would be a solution but then again, few had access to the Infernal river or knew the right ratio. Hades began to walk away from the theater and the scene, even as he heard people surround the soap opera star. Even as he heard people begin to call 911. -- I wouldn’t worry about notes if I were you. -- The man simply wouldn’t remember her. Or anything for the last five years.
The muse nodded at the text, even if he couldn’t see it. She’d probably hear about the results of his actions within the next few hours anyway. --Thank you Aiden.--
Hades was glad he had judged the man and looked into his soul without giving into the impulsive “simply kill him” or Mel’s plan of driving him insane. There had been a glimmer of good in the man, buried under the greed and vanity of the success Mel had given him so easily. He smirked a little as he walked away from the scene behind him invisibly. Now things would be harder for him... the man would never know the ease he had gained his previous success and would have to work to make sense of what he could not remember.
There was no reason to destroy a person completely if it could be prevented. Hades would keep his eye on him... luckily, the man worked on a soap opera so it wouldn’t even be out of his way to do so. -- You’re welcome. Give me another fifteen minutes and I will be definitely out of the area range so you can safely walk back. Also there is a scene going on outside your theater you should probably avoid. --
--Back way in then. The actors are probably slacking anyway.-- She reached for the small cluster of items that she’d used to take over the table and keep others from bothering her. The script book now looked more like an artists doodle pad then something for a director, but it would hardly matter to the muse. She paused and sent another text. --Anything else I should do?--
-- Try to be good. -- The Unseen One knew better than to say anything but try but as he neared where he could slip away and then begin to consider returning to visibility, he had another thought. -- Can I steal Helen for the rest of the day? --
There was a long pause from Mel’s end as she packed up her things, before she looked to the phone and started to consider the question. After a moment more, she answered. --Sure. I want her back within 24 hours though.-- That would give him more then enough time, and also give her some time with Nick.
-- I can do that. I’ll bring her back in the morning. -- Hades took the permission to entertain little Helen as his reward for helping her but it had the added benefit of giving Delaney another child to socialize with for the day. He smirk transformed into a small smile. The image of his daughter inviting his effective-godchild to a tea party simply warmed his soul.
It was a moment of relief he desperately needed from the anxiety that normally dwelt there as of late. -- Thank you. --
--You’re welcome. Enjoy.-- She didn’t add in any of the comments about keeping her safe or treating her well. He was Helen’s god-father, and could probably take better care of the girl then Mel could. She shook her head with the thought and shoved everything back into her messenger bag. --And tell Shadow.--
He couldn’t help but blink at his phone at the last text but then shrugged. Hades had done stranger things than tell dogs about taking children from homes. Now all he had to do was remember where he parked his truck. Then and only then would he figure out where to become visible again.
Melpomene kept her phone in hand for a few minutes, waiting to see if her uncle would have more to say on the topic. She cleared the table and headed out of the shop, slipping a pair of sunglasses on as she started toward the theater. She’d have to shift over a block to come from behind, but she could always send a stage crew member out the front to see what happened. She’d know soon enough. Either way, it no longer mattered. She had a play to run.
Summary: As promised, Hades goes to Mel’s theater to judge the soap opera star who has decided stalking the muse and blackmailing her would be a good way to improve his career. He was judged guilty, but not condemned to die. Simply condemned to forgot a little.
