"Mr. Lion?"
Greg groaned, though he was a little amused. "For the last time, Lily, it's Lyon," he said as he turned to the door. Well enough to be on his feet, he was putting the things that friends had brought to entertain him into a gym bag; his doctors had declared him fit to go home, and he was glad of it. Now if he could just get ahold of his family, that'd be even better, but it seemed they were operating under radio silence. A smart move, really. Who knew if Subrosa was listening?
The intern blushed. "S-sorry! It's just, you've got a message from a Mrs. Kelling?"
Huh? Suddenly, his day got ten times better. "That's miss, trust me on this." He took the phone and held it up to his ear. He hoped it was good news. "Greg talkin'."
On the other end of the line, Alana blinked. She hadn't realized she was going to get Greg, just to leave him a message to call her back. Quickly she shifted her phone as she grabbed her mug of coffee. "Oh, hey. You're up. Sleep alright?" She tried to sound awake and positive, not letting the lack of sleep creep in just yet.
Well, he was on the nurses good side. He had a feeling she had a crush on him. Hoped that wasn't going to cause issues later... "Yeah, pretty good. You sound exhausted though, what'd you do?"
"Not sleep. And it's goin' to be a fuckin' pain ass of a day." She was already at the hotel, and was actually at her desk. But for what she was about to say, she didn't want buzzing ears. So she stepped from her desk and into the old man's office, bumping the door securely closed behind her. "I got a call from one of your family last night..."
"Oh? Good!" He sat down, folding a shirt over his knee. "Who was it? Are they back already?"
"It was from Vadimas. And they got back but..." She sighed and looked around the office. "... Well, who the fuck knows how long I'm goin' to be covering for two jobs instead of just one."
Herakles paused in his folding. She sounded worried. "What's wrong? What did he say?"
"The old man's dead. Hades is supposed to bring him back, but they don't know when that'll happen." She could only hope soon.
... What? "You can't be serious. They really did it? But he's... he's not what he was, I know, but..."
"From my understanding, he was super weak, a kid who's Athena's brother popped from his head, it was too much, and he died." Her words probably sounded a bit blunt and careless, but the over simplifying was the only way she was sure of getting it out. If she was subtle and careful, she would probably have botched the whole thing. And right now, she needed to keep it together.
"Okay now I know you're joking. There is no son, Dad made sure of it thousands of years ago!" he said, whispering into the phone. If his life didn't already play out like a bad soap opera, he sure as hell thought it did now. "Are you sure you heard him right?"
"You can take it up with him. But from what he said to me, same mother, same father, as your wise sister." She shrugged and took a drink of her coffee, hoping it would calm her enough to sound less bitchy. She let out a breath. "Maybe he's learned something since last night or my memory is fucked up."
"Oh... oh gods. But you said Hades was going to bring him back, right? How can he-- no, never mind. I guess... it's not that shocking. Pan almost died all those months ago, and Baulder too. I guess it's... foolish to think that any one of us is unreachable," he murmured, clearly disturbed. "Was anyone else hurt?"
"Not that I know of." She moved across the room and sat at the old man's desk, looking to see if there was anything obvious that would need to be taken care of. She paused and sighed. "Look, Teddy... Greg... Giant... Whatever the fuck your name is.... The smith seems pretty confident that he's coming back. The body is probably just a fucked up wreck or something. Look at the time you got blown up. So, yeah, he's dead. But when does that ever stop your family?"
"That's true. It's just weird to hear that... he's supposed to be the strongest, and if he can fall, it doesn't bode well for the rest of us. At least we got him back," he said with a sigh and got back to packing, tucking the phone into his shoulder. "Do you need help?"
"People landed you in a hospital where you weren't the death of everyone around you," she reminded him off hand. It was still odd to think of Zeus as being dead, but Alana could only think of it as one of those passing things, and that, really, wasn't so bad. She just had to keep things under control until he got back, or someone else was placed in charge... Though it'd probably just be him again. "Probably, but I don't know how much help you'd be. You good enough to work, or takin' a few easy days?"
"Good as I'll ever feel; I'm being let out today. You holdin down the fort?"
"More or less. Your pup is with mine at the house. If you want to make a drop by, I can make you my errand boy for the day to keep it easy on you. I don't think the shark media is out in force today, but they could just be getting a late start." She shuffled some things around, figuring out if Zeus had any kind of way of organizing.
The answer was no.
"Sounds good enough. Does it come with dental?" he asked. Humor was his best way of coping with situations like this.
"I let you know once I know what the fuck my pay is." This was going to be a nightmare. She was going to need her own secretary. One who knew how to be one. ... That made her pause. She wondered if Dante could spare Julie at all. Probably not. She'd call her at lunch. "Or you can just go to my house and veg out for the day, take some time to recover and all."
You had me at 'go to my house'. Don't worry, I'll come over and help. Let me find my damn pants, though." He suspected the intern. "See you in a bit?"
"Only if you can find some pants. I don't need the police to get called in." Breath... She took another drink of her coffee. "But yeah, I'll see ya later."
"Stay safe," he said, smiling into the phone. Things could've been worse, he supposed. At least almost everybody else was safe. And Zeus could.. come back...
"You too." Clicking the phone off, Alana looked over the desk, and started to get to work. Monday had been chaotic, but straight forward. Yesterday had been damage control. Today, she had to try to find a way to keep things from completely becoming a disaster.
Summary: Alana calls Herk as promised to tell him about his father.
