Who: Euterpe and Pitch
What: Information DOOM
Where: Euterpe's Dream
When: BACKDATED to the night of the 7th/8th
Warnings: All [Greekspeak]
Deep in the middle of the night, the pitter-patter of doggie feet could be heard coming from the front door of the condo, though the whole apartment and then pausing only to leap atop the bed where Euterpe slept. The Doberman paused as he settled at the foot of the bed, watching her, considering his actions, before moving and resting his dark doggie head on her stomach.
He closed his eyes and tried to enter her dreams once more.
For the most part, Euterpe's dreams were old and musical. Simple, to say the least. This was no different - and in her little dream world, she was sitting in her favourite glade playing her aulos, and she looked very little like her modern self.
She did not notice the visitor until after her song had ended, though music still flowed although Euterpe's playing had ended. Ah, yes. Welcome to the normal dreams of a Muse.
He entered the dream world as that of the Doberman that she knew, but then sitting at her side at the end of her song, he transformed into the guise of the man she had seen earlier. Tanned skin, bald and handsome. He touched his shoulder to hers with a soft smile in greeting. "Is this [how it] {always looks}?"
"[Unless there is a reason to be otherwise.]," Euterpe replied with a small shrug and pushed the long, loose locks of blonde hair back over her shoulders. "[In dreams, anyway.]"
Human Pitch took a deep breath listening to her words. He could try to speak in one language now that she was speaking in such an ancient one. "[It's very fitting for you. I'm glad you're happy in your dreams now.]"
She nodded. Though the Muse had the feeling that if her beastial companion was here, her good mood was about to falter. Their last conversation had not gone so... lightly. "[There have been happier days, happier dreams.]"
Pitch shifted to be a little closer to her. He had grown to enjoy her presence. One does not sleep in a bed without enjoying the warmth of the other. Besides, she always smelled so nice. He tried to figure out exactly how he wished to phrase his exact words. "[I hope I do not end them then. That is never my intention.]"
Euterpe let out a long sigh, but nodded. Yup. Saw this coming. While he was a companion and a source of comfort for her, seeing his human form in her dreams was starting to scare her just a little. "[I know. But it cannot be helped.]"
He touched her hair softly until the back of his fingers reached her cheek. Weeks of being a comfort was a hard habit to break. But words needed to be spoken, "[I have good news as well. You can tell your father that the young of your house are safe. The time has passed. The Easteners cannot do their ritual. Whereever they are hidden, if they are in once place, they should be released… ]"
She nodded. "[I doubt he will simply drop guard, it is not his nature. Nor any of our family that has known parenthood.]" Euterpe sighed. "[How is it that you know these things?]"
"[I do not suggest that he drops his guard. But the House of the Nile are angry. Some of them anyway. They are out for blood. If the young are being protected in one place, they make an large target. It would be better to spread out and keep alert.]" Pitch paused and lowered his eyes from her. Her last question was harder to answer. He nuzzled his shoulder against hers as he would have on her couch as a beast in thought, "[I watch these things. Off in the shadows, I witness them when you slumber.]"
The Muse watched his action, but nodded. "[I will tell him, then. All of them. No leaving it in the hands of a bitter queen this time.]"
"[Thank you. I considered telling your father myself, but a mystery letter would not help at this time.]" He turned his head to her and smiled again. Softly, he reached out and took one of her hands within his own, "[I'm sorry I keep using you as a messenger…]"
"[It is better than trying to write as a dog, or risking being seen by Evie or Nate]." That was, of course, assuming he could even do this human thing outside of the dream world. "[But I suspect soon they will want to find out how exactly I get all this information. And if Athena gets involved...]"
"[That Nate keeps trying to pose me with Sadie.]" He said absently, running his thumb over the back of his hands. He did enjoy having hands. But then his smile faded, "[I think they will be suspicious of the answer… And you will cease to trust me.]"
A brief chuckle bubbled forth at the first statement, but the humor in it faded rather quickly - just as his smile. Euterpe turned to look at him fully. "[Then tell me now. Give me a reason to trust you.]"
Pitch nodded. "[Alright. Just know that I do care about you. I am not playing you for a fool.]" With that said, he closed his human eyes and paused for a moment. He believed words were very powerful, but if he was going to confess something uncomfortable, he might as well be comfortable during it. He glimmered for a moment and his human head faded away, replaced by the head of a dark jackal, from the waist of the kilt a long black tail appeared. The rest of him remained perfectly the same. Anubis looked to her with his amber eyes.
Once the change had taken place, the Muse scrambled away from 'Pitch'. "[Barker!]", she hissed, pointing a finger at him once she was several paces away and standing - the sunny sky overhead now turning into dark storm clouds. "[What reason have you to try to aid us while your own attack us?]"
Anubis wasn't surprised, but it didn't mean it did not hurt. He picked up a rock from the ground and sadly skipped it across the ground, his tail very still. He then lifted sad amber eyes up to the woman he had slept beside for weeks, "[This is why I said I did not want to give my name last time I spoke to you. Do you think I am going to hurt you that you need to back away from me?]"
Well, fine. Stubbornly, and partially to prove that she was a brave little Muse, she picked up the skirts of her dress and stomped back over to stand next to him. See? Not scared. "[Better? Now, you didn't answer my question.]"
Anubis was beginning to regret his actions, but he looked up to her standing beside him. He remained sitting. Sitting was much less threatening. "[My own has cast me out. I did not agree with their actions, I tried to convince them to not believe Coyote but they chose him over me. Some of them have gone mad, and those who have not are following because they have no means to resist. I do not want this war.]"
Euterpe sighed. Now she felt bad. Damn her emotional instability! "[What do they seek to gain by eliminating us?]"
He placed his jackal head into his human hands, his own emotions breaking in a different way, "[I think it's to keep you out of their way. And for vengeance. When four of your own stormed into their headquarters and hurt Coyote. He is highly favored by Bast and Set. Enough that they do not need their herald if it came to losing one of us…]"
The Muse watched him for a moment, then turned and began to pace. "[So those that are opposed to the actions of Bast and Set but aren't doing anything about refusing... what if we get them on our side? Show them there is an alternative to playing along? That would effectively diminish their manpower.]"
Anubis looked up to her, his black tail wagging just slightly, "[They are the weaker members of my family. They cannot fight against those they disagree with if it came to blows, and it is against their station to refuse when it comes to words. But if they knew someone else was there, then they would at least have a viable choice. I don't know what silver tongue Coyote speaks with but when he convinced Ra so many agreed… Those who would never agree with each other agreed when Ra spoke. I don't understand.]"
"[So we present the option to those who opposed, and we take out Coyote for good. It won't come without a price but if we can take out the speaker then we may be able to break their ranks before they can launch a full retaliation.]" Now she knew she had been watching too many movies. "[Or at least it's something that can be presented to my family and they can deal with the specifics.]"
"[I need my family stopped before it gets much worse.]" The jackal god patted the ground beside him to convince her to return to sitting at his side. He was tired of looking up at the muse. His tail continued to wag against the ground, hope flickering in his amber eyes, but he turned his attentions to another discussion, "[You trust me, right?]"
Slowly, she nodded. "[I will trust you until you give me a reason to do otherwise, and Zeus help you if you ever do such a thing.]" Euterpe warned sternly, but then conceded and returned to her place beside him, picking her aulos from the ground where they fell when she abruptly moved.
Gently, he nuzzled against her shoulder, the soft fur of his face very similar to that of his fur when she was awake and he was a dog. It was a peace offering, "[I said I would protect you. Doing something that goes against your trust would be contrary to that. I am very loyal. I just want what is best for both our Houses.]"
"[Then we will see how things go,]" She replied and sniffed the dream-like scent of rain in the air and lifted her flute to her lips. It was her dream, her world for the time being, and rain simply didn't suit her. So, with little else to say, she proceeded to play the dull dream weather away, and was perfectly content to keep playing after that until she woke.
Content with those words, Anubis settled down into the grass. Knowing that she was more comfortable with him as a silent beast, he shifted his form and took that of a black jackal and rested his head on her lap with rapt attention to her songs. He would remain there in her dream until she awoke.
Summary: Pitch wanders into Euterpe's dream again to update her on more information to share. Then there's an alarming reveal before the dream settles and continues on as normal.
