Who: Dionysus and Aphrodite What: An unholy union :D Where: Vice When: Today, afternoon Warnings: None
Talking with Joanna about a caterer had helped to ease her mind, but now Aphrodite had to find the perfect bartender. Someone that, even if there was a lack of food, could keep everyone at the opening party happy with drinks. She had glanced through numerous magazines on Miami's nightlife, the best places to go, and one bar was mentioned above all the rest: Vice.
Catching a cab to the bar, she tipped the driver a generous amount and slipped out the door. She looked at the outside of the establish and nodded, impressed. At least it looked like a decent place, but the rest all depended on the owner, David Wood.
Walking inside, she placed her sunglasses on top of her head and glanced around. The place was relatively emptying being the middle of the afternoon, so she approached the bar with ease and waited to be helped.
D yawned, polishing off the countertop of his bar. He glanced up and saw a striking blond at the end of the bar, a smile crossing his features. He knew giving up the managerial work of his bar for more face time at the serving end of things had been a good idea. Well helloooo lady ma'am. He strode over to his patron. "What can I help you with, miss?"
"I'm looking for the owner," she said simply with a smile. "I just need to ask him a few questions, is all. Is he in?"
"That's me," D smiled, leaning across the counter with an amused smile. "So. What can I help you with...miss?"
She leaned in as well, sliding her hand across the bar to rest it lightly on his. "Carmen Summers, Mr. Wood. Are you free to talk business?"
D looked around. It wasn't exactly hopping. "Sure Miss Summers. How can I help you?"
"I'm having a party for my business and I was hoping to get a bartender." She paused, looking thoughtful. "Obviously not just a bartender, but the best in Miami, which is why I'm here, of course. Are you for hire?"
D blinked. Well, she was presumptuous wasn't she. He hadn't even heard of her before, and here he was asking one of Miami's premiere party men to tend bar. "Maybe. What's your business exactly?" It's not like he was some kiddie magician who'd do any gig.
"Lingerie," she said with a wink. "The shop, Aphrodesia, is opening in a couple of weeks and I want it to draw in a crowd. So, what do you say?"
Surprisingly, he had heard of it. You weren't Dionysus if you missed out on word of half naked chicks standing in store fronts. "Ah, that place...sure. I'll do it. What are you looking to pay me and what size crowd? Exclusive or free-for-all?"
She should have looked more surprised at the quick agreement but all she did was smile, patting the hand that hers was still resting on. "I'll pay whatever you want. I've never hired a bartender before, I'm not sure how much you run. And I'm assuming the crowd is going to be a couple hundred at least and, naturally, it'll be a free-for-all. I can bring in anything that you'll need to serve the best." Very little planning had been done on her part, but she assumed that toting around the fact she'd be willing to pay anything was a definitive in getting what she wanted.
"I'll get a little staff together. Don't worry about a thing, I'll worry about buying all the liquor and aquiring a special license for the night...since most people don't think about that sort of thing, but..." He had an amused smirk on his face. "You've never had a drink here. I would've remembered a face like yours...how do you know if I'm any good? And don't say word of mouth. That can be bought, I assure you."
"People know your name in Miami and that's what I want," she said with a small shrug. Popularity was the most important factor. "But if you really want me to test the product before I hire you, then you should make me a drink."
"Your wish is my command," D smiled, and then he went to work. With near supernatural grace, he put a drink together for her, and when he was done, he slid it down the bar to her. "Try this."
She watched with a keen eye, her brow quirked curiously. He was definitely nice to look at (and even better when he was working). Letting her fingers curl around the glass, she drew it to her lips and took a small drink. Eyes closing, she savored the sweet taste of the perfect blend.
"Well, that's something," she said softly, her eyes opening slowly. "It's been some time since I've had something this good. What did you make me?"
"Something I just thought up," Dionysus grinned, stretching out his spine. "The one and only Miami Aphrodisiac."
"Miami Aphrodisiac?" she asked amusedly, taking another sip. "So is it suppose to make me delirious with sexual desire?"
"Yep," D smiled, tossing her a wink.
"Hmm, it may just be working," she said, playing with the glass between her hands. "So, Mr. Wood, am I to expect you to come by my shop to see what you have to work with? Then we'll be able to finalize this temporary partnership."
"Sure then, just give me a card, dollface," D smiled, leaning against the bar.
Leaving the glass alone for just a moment, she pulled a card from her purse and held it between her index and middle finger, extending it slightly. "What other cute little names do you have stored for the women that come through your door?"
D pocketed this, still smiling at her. "I know a few languages, so...I never run out." French. "/Cupcake/" Modern Greek. "*Beautiful*" Ancient Greek. "[Nymph. Divine.]"
In the midst of bringing up her glass for another taste of the sweet liquid, she froze at the last of the appalations. "Do you put divine to use often?"
D blinked, surprised. "You understood that?"
She nodded, a slow smile forming. "[Who are you really?]"
"[Who are you?]" D asked, a little defensive. "[Afterall, you're the one who came sniffing me out.]"
"[For your bartending skills and nothing more,]" she said, rolling her eyes. Her hand went out again, a reintroduction, "[Aphrodite.]"
D grinned, reaching out to place a kiss on her hand. "[Ah gorgeous, you'll have to forgive me. We can't be too careful these days...Dionysus.]"
Her eyes lit up. "[Dionysus?]" she squeaked with joy, wrapping her fingers aound his hand after the touch of his lips. "[That explains a lot. Come over here,]" she tugged his hand lightly to the right, trying to get him to move around the bar.
Dionysus did so, manuevering around to wrap his arms around her. "Well we'll have to make this party of yours a big big success..."
"Only the best," she said, her arms slipping aorund his neck. She leaned up, placing a quick kiss to the corner of his mouth. "Miami gets more exciting every day."
"Mhmm..." He grinned, playing with a strand of her hair. "Oh! While I have you here, I have a favor to ask..."
"Well since you've already agreed to help me, I suppose I can do the same for you depending. What do you need done?" she asked, still smiling as she drew her finger along his jaw.
"There's this girl," he admitted, the frustration clear in his face. "We dated for a bit, but she's...well she's a virgin. Steadfast. I didn't get it at first until one of my more prudent sisters showed up at a barbecue this girl was throwing. She was being groomed for virginity y'now? Ho hum. And I've convinced her to go with me to Paris....I. Don't. Like. Not getting the things I want. You understand don't you?"
Her lips pursed as he spoke, watching him thoughtfully. "I'm flattered that you know I can break her," she said simply. "But I'm curious as to why you can't do. She's just a mortal after all."
"I probably could with enough time...[and if it weren't for Athena]" D shrugged. "Plus I kind of pissed her off. A vacation isn't enough time to get her to forgive me and warm her up. I guess what I need is a shortcut....and don't you hate virgins?"
She curled her nose in distaste. "Of course I hate virgins, especially ones who do it for a goddess," she said under her breath. "Tell me more about her and I'll make sure a little meeting before your trip happens."
"Her name is Alana...she works as [Dad's] secretary at the Jube Hotel. Clever name right?" He laughed, leaning back against the bar. "She likes dancing and working with her hands."
"He's here too?" she asked, perking up again. "It's been so long since I've seen everyone, everyting is just so..." she sighed, shaking her head to focus on topic again. "What does Alana look like?"
"Dark brown hair, tan skin, big brown eyes, wears not the most feminine clothing..." God, Athena must have pegged her from the start now that D thought about it. "ANd yeah tons of people are here. Remind me and I'll get you a list."
Her brow furrowed slightly, leaning away. "So why exactly are you interested in this girl?" She sounded horribly bland.
"I don't like not getting the things I want," D repeated, sounding irate.
Another eye roll but she nodded. "Fine, fine. I'll go to the hotel. It's been a while since I've worked on a stubborn mortal. Most people are easy these days."
"You're a peach," D grinned, kissing her on the cheek.
"Mmm I know," she said with a smile, patting his chest. "When are you heading off to Paris?"
"She still needs to get her passport in order," D replied, smiling down at her. "And I still need to do your party, so we have some time."
"Tell her about the party. I mean, from the sound of it I doubt she'd be interested in what I'm selling but it may plant a few ideas in her mind at least."
"Will do," D smiled, nuzzling at Aphrodite. "It's so good to see you..."
"Of course it is," she said, resting her head against his shoulder momentarily. "It's been too long," she added with a sigh. "Are you going to be working the whole day?"
"I could make time for you." Read: I could leave right now, if you wanted. D was a simple fellow.
When she drew back from his shoulder, she took his hand instead, stroking her thumb along the palm of his hand. "How much time?"
"For you? All of it," D smiled, waving to the other bartender. "I'm out for the day. Hold my calls..." Which was a silly thing to say at a bar.
"Good, because we really need to get reaquainted." She led him out of the bar and turned to face him, walking backwards. "Where should we go first?"
"My place?" Apollo was probably busy right? Heck. Sure. If not he could sneak around him. This was gonna be a good day.
