DIAAAAAAAABETTTTTTTTTTTTESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!
A part of him had been thinking about this for some time, long before he had gotten pulled right out of the zone and tossed back into the life he used to have, but it wouldn't leave him alone now that he was home. It was home to him now, despite all the crazy shit that happened here and there. And he knew that it was largely in part of how he felt about Zonic.
He had lost him twice before thanks to the rubber band tactics that the zone did sometimes, but for the most part, everything had seemed to be stable. It had been largely one of the reasons that he had considered asking his tattered hedgehog to stay with him forever, though that initial step toward commitment always made him hesitate. Scourge wasn't one of those people that ever really expected to settle down. Honestly, he never really expected to feel this way about someone either - but here he was, finally about to make the attempt.
It scared the shit out of him.
Scourge had tried to think of ways that he could make this perfect. He really wanted it to be perfect. But Zonic was too smart for his own good - he'd figure something was up if Scourge did something uncharacteristic like ask him out to dinner. Or he might not believe him or think that he was cursed. He was pretty sure he couldn't deal with that.
After all, Zonic did all these little things for him to make him feel better about the fact that officers in the No Zone had hacked away Scourge's quills so that he could be incarcerated, even cutting his own quills nice and short so he didn't have to go through regrowing them alone. Granted, his tatterhog could be a little shithead just like he was, but when it really mattered - Zonic was always there for him.
They had been through enough together for him to know that even though they had never said it to each other, they loved one another. It was just this unsaid agreement between the two of them. It was almost as if both were afraid that the other would react badly to such words, so they were never said.
But he really wanted to do something that would potentially help keep them together. The problem with the zone was that there was always the chance that they would lose one another because the hotel decided to send them back. He wasn't even sure if they were from the same zone when the chips were down, but...Scourge knew that you forgot everything when you left here. If anything, he could figure that part out later.
Getting Zonic to join him up on the rooftop was easy enough. They often spent time up there just talking or hanging out. Usually with a beer or two, but he didn't want to wreck that by getting shitfaced, though he may have wanted to chain smoke since his nerves were acting up. With spring in full swing, the city was blossoming and sunsets seemed to last longer than they had in wintertime. Scourge usually found himself up here to just have some peace and quiet - but when he saw how pretty it was tonight, he just had to give it a shot.
The little box in one of his pockets felt like it was made of lead as he tried to keep a clear head to go through with his plan.
He wasn't the type of person to just go for it, like you would see in those cheesy romance movies, but he knew that he had to do something differently to keep Zonic from simply bolting as he probably would have done if the tables were turned. Dressing up or doing something out of the ordinary wasn't him. He wasn't going to get in a suit or anything. If anything, that'd just tip his tatterhog off to something being wrong.
In his other pocket, he made sure that the other little bits of his plan were nearby as he kept the conversation going with his partner. It made him even more nervous as he knew that he had to be really exact when attempting this, or it was going to backfire on him and he was going to be punched in the face. Scourge let his fingers slide over the metal in one pocket, reminding himself of how quick he could be with it, before laughing a little at the conversation at hand.
Luckily for him, Zonic usually enjoyed watching the sun set rather than pay attention to what he was doing when they were hanging out...he could use that to his advantage.
It would just be a matter of springing it on him.
"...mm, sure is pretty out here tonight," he said, trying to keep Zonic distracted for the time being.
