The words 'werewolf hunter' instantly put Elena on alert. Chris wasn't giving off any signs that he meant to harm her, but back home, that kind of thing was a matter of legend and hearing that not only did they actually exist, but she was in the presence of one was unsettling.
She listened as he continued to talk, forcing herself to stay as calm as possible. The last thing she needed to do was lose control and give him a reason to fall back on his training.
When he said that he retired as a hunter, she relaxed a bit. He seemed rather accepting of the fact that his daughter had fallen in love with not one, but two werewolves. And considering that Isaac was the one who stayed with him, she figured that there really was no imminent danger.
After letting the silence hang between them for a long moment, she cleared her throat. "I fell in love with a professor when I was a student at the University of Toronto. We had a whirlwind romance and he took me home to meet his family. While we were there, he bit me. He couldn't tell me the truth or his Alpha would have been required to kill him. But biting me and making me one of them meant I had to know."
She still hadn't forgiven Clay for taking away her agency. Had he explained things and given her a choice, she likely would have agreed to the bite so they could be together, but he felt that it was his right to make that choice for her and that was unforgivable. "In our world, it's rare for a bitten wolf to survive and the gene is passed from father to son, so I'm the only female werewolf."
