After telling Keith to stay right where he was over the network and then having a disagreement with Veronica about her staying behind while he went to retrieve her father, he went into his room, putting on his holster and arming himself with his gun, grabbed his handcuffs, wallet and badge before he went downstairs where Veronica was waiting. Grabbing the keys to his truck, he put himself in front of Veronica before unholstering his gun and opening the door, doing a quick sweep. When he determined that nothing was lurking in the shadows and they had a clear path to his truck, he pulled Veronica with him, keeping her close while keeping a vigilant eye to their surroundings. He wished she had agreed to stay behind. A part of him couldn’t blame her though. If he had been in her position and his father was out there, there would have been nothing that would have kept him from going to him.
Once they were both secure in the truck, he holstered his weapon, started the truck and drove away. After a short drive, they were in the vicinity of where Keith had told him he was and Steve parked the truck and looked around. He didn’t see any vampires but that didn’t mean that they weren’t out there. Steve reached into his back pocket, pulling out a set of handcuffs. He knew Veronica wasn’t surprised. She had even said that she knew he was going to handcuff her to the steering wheel and she was absolutely right. It was bad enough that he couldn’t get her to stay behind, he wasn’t going to let her get hurt on his watch and if handcuffing her to the steering wheel of his truck ensured that, he had no regrets.
Reaching over, he took her wrist, locking a cuff around it before securing the other one to the steering wheel. “Listen to me. You do not open the doors or windows for anyone and if anything moves around this general vicinity, you lay on the horn. Do you understand me?” Nope. Steve McGarrett wasn’t protective at all.
Steve unholstered his gun again, checking it over before he opened the door and slid out. “I’m going to find your father and will be right back.”
