“Such an obvious question really,” he replied with a shrug as he accepted the drink that the bartender was handing him. “What are we doing here? What is the meaning of life? Is death really the end of everything?” He sighed a bit dramatically and took a sip of his drink. “All questions whose answers have yet to be uncovered. Oh! Unless of course you’re referring to what I’m doing here in this bar? Well, that’s a simple one then.”
By way of answer, he lifted his glass to her in a mock toast before draining what was left of it and setting it back down on the bar for a refill. “Do tell me, Katerina. How has your life been as of late? Still running? You’re quite good at that, you know. But while we’re on the subject of questions, I suppose the better question here would be…. why are you here?”
