It had been a surprise to Klaus to see his daughter all grown up. He’d only been holding her in his arms as a child mere minutes ago, and now, she was standing in front of him. A woman in her own right and beautiful as ever. I made that, he thought with a smirk. Yes, even he could make something beautiful like that. Apart from his art, she was the most beautiful thing he had ever had a hand in creating. He’d known right away it was her. He could just tell, and with all the time jumping going on, even with himself, he didn’t think it too far-fetched either. She was his daughter alright. She was his Hope. “Where are we off to first, my love?” He glanced over at her, eyes gleaming with pride. Klaus was often the type to spout seductive words out at women to lure them into a false sense of security. It was only natural for him to call them love, but Hope was different. He always referred to her as my love. She was the only one who received such an esteemed title. She was his one true love, the person he could not live without, or at least not live an even semi-sane life knowing she was hurt or otherwise ailing. She was his number one priority no matter the place nor the time. As they strolled through the streets of the island, Klaus felt a surging sense of completion for the first time in his life. To know that he had somehow in some future succeeded in keeping Hope alive was the most satisfying thing he could think of. She was safe and strong and beautiful. She was breathing. And that was all that mattered. “Won’t you amuse your old man by gracing him with tales of your youth in the meantime? I’m most eager to learn of what you’ve been up to all these years.” |
