Out of all the superpowered freaks Sydney had encountered in this place, she supposed Mr. Barnes wasn't the worst of them. Far from, actually. At least he was actually human - just an eerily augmented one. And if Sydney had to be entirely honest with herself, she wasn't exactly completely untouched either. The golden lily on her cheek gave health and stamina beyond a normal human's reach. It was necessary for doing her job, though - her job back at home. Doing administrative work at the precinct didn't quite call for the same talents. That didn't mean Sydney wasn't keeping up her alchemy, though. With Rose's arrival, she had a feeling the bodies of the bad guys were going to pile up and in need of disposal. But that was an issue for another day. In the meantime, she needed to help find a part for Mr. Barnes. It wasn't an easy task, given how complex the structure attached to his arm was. She tried not to stare at it as they walked, but she couldn't help it. She was fascinated by it the same way she was fascinated by a great engine in a car. It was a marvel, if unnatural. And it wasn't as if there was much else to distract her anyway. She'd never been very good at social small talk, and it seemed he wasn't either. In a way, that was okay. As long as neither of them expected easy, flowing conversation, it was actually kind of relaxing to not have to wrack her brain for things to say. Words came easily enough anyway when a McLaren floated by, its engine purring as passed. Her eyes went wide. "My god," she said with a dreamy sigh. "What a beauty." |
