Subject: Team Psychologist

Let me take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Dr. Dean Winters. Some of you may remember me from my previous stint here. I'm the team Psychologist, or shrink as some have called me. I want to be called Dr. Dean but will answer if you call me Shrink.

I am available to players and staff. I abide by doctor/patient confidentiality. If you are referred to me by a staff member the only thing I will reveal to that staff member is the that you saw me and as little information as I need to. If you require medications, I will discuss that with the appropriate person/people. Confidentiality is top priority.

As some of you may recall I don't take the same approaches as other people in my profession. I believe the stuffy, impersonal nature of those people only makes my profession get a worse rap. Of course I got into this field at a much younger age so I have very different views than many of them do. Don't be afraid to come see me just because you have a perceived notion of how I am.

If you have issues of any kind see me. I'm not here for the classic psychological issues only. I'm here for anything. If you have issues that you don't wish to discuss with your coaches, come to me and maybe we can work through it. If you have anything on your mind, please stop by my office. I'm available for anything you want to discuss. If you have something on your mind that you don't think is a big issue, still come see me. Stop by my office anytime. A sign will be on the door if I'm with somebody. If that's the case I will have a lock box outside the office. Drop in your name and I'll be in touch asap. You can email me as well. If you have an emergency and I'm not available please contact another staff member.

I will be getting settled in over the next few days. Please stop by my office anytime to talk or say hi. I will be scheduling appointments once I go over files and talk to staff members but I will take time to see anybody who needs me while I'm settling in. I always have time for anybody who needs me.

Subj:    Introductions

For those who don't know me yet my name is Doctor Dean Winters. I'm the team Psychiatrist, or shrink as many prefer to call me.

If a staff member sends you to me don't look at it negatively. We'll review why you were sent to me and what we need to look at. Sometimes a staff member sees something you don't and it's not serious, it's just changing something that's easy to change. We all have to understand that more is expected of all of us here so things that were nothing on our regular teams may look like an issue here. Everything can be fixed, if you cooperate it's easier and quicker to work out.

If you have issues of any kind see me. I'm not here for mental issues only. That's where I get the negative image. I'm here for anything. If you have issues that you don't wish to discuss with your coaches, comes to me and maybe we can work through it. Any issues, or if you have anything on your mind, please stop by my office. If I'm with somebody drop me a line and I'll look you up as soon as I'm free.

You may be surprised to find I don't fit the shrink stereotype. If any of you would feel more comfortable talking somewhere besides my office I can arrange that. If you guys want to arrange some kind of trip into town to get to know what I'm like let me know and we can arrange that on your off time. I want you all to be comfortable with me. Don't be afraid to approach me for most anything.

If you want to ask me questions you can do so here or Private Message me. To make an appointment Private Message me or email me.

Please know anything we talk about is strictly between us. If we are just out on the town anything that happens there will be told to anybody who wasn't with us. If you need to bitch about other staff members they'll never be told. Just don't keep things locked inside until you explode. That could cost you your shot at the Olympics.

Subj:  Future schedule (ongoing for now)

Going forward, this is the team daily schedule. Any complaints, let me know. I'll be happy to send you home so you can sleep late every day and not have to worry about working so hard.
  • 8am - Breakfast.  TEAM breakfast.  Together.
  • 930 - Practice (on ice)
  • Noon - Lunch. Again. TEAM lunch.
  • 1pm - Workouts / practice / team meetings. I'll decide which. You'll find out after practice.
  • 5pm - Team dinner.
  • 6pm - MANDATORY review of the day's activities.
  • 7pm - You're on your own at this point
  • 10pm - Curfew. All players must be in their dorm rooms.  Their OWN dorm rooms

That's right. You guys are going to eat, sleep, train together. As a team.  This will be the schedule going forward on M-F.  Saturdays for now we will be having split squad scrimmages in the morning, lunch and then a brief team meeting at which time you're free to do what you'd like for the weekend.

We will not have any meetings or practices on Sundays for now.

I would also like to inform all of you that I will be taking the ice tomorrow and participating in some of the drills.  Since some players seem to think they can now hit their way onto the team, I'd like to welcome you to take a shot at me.

[basically this is so we're all on the same page as to where guys may/may not be any given time....what happens during these times? Go to town with it]

Once all the boys are here, I'm going to need to do a baseline physical on each. I know I have records from all their assorted teams and such, but I like to do my own so I know what I'm dealing with.

During your into interviews, please remind them to schedule an appointment with me ASAP.

ps - should any of you need medical assistance, don't hesitate to ask. The last thing anyone wants around here is some plague running through everyone.
