Finley continued to sip on her water while Jai worked out the radio channel and said his first bit. She realized that she was holding her breath waiting for the officer on the other end to pick up, but when he did the sigh that she let out was just as refreshing as the water. She licked her lips and leaned forward as she accepted the mic. She thought about what she needed to say for a second before she pressed the button on the side. "Officer, this is Detective Finley McKnight of the Baltimore PD. Besides myself, there were approximately two hundred passengers on board Flight 291 of United Airlines when the engines shut off earlier today. The passengers and crew have experienced phone outages and this is the first chance to my knowledge that anyone has made any contact with law enforcement. This is to verify that all passengers have been accounted for and are in good condition." She paused for a moment. "Over," she added and released the button. Better for a few details at a time. She didn't want to overwhelm the officer.
While she waited on a response, she glanced down at the mic in her hand. CB's were practically obsolete, weren't they? How fortunate was she that not only did the hotel have one available for use, but so did the local authorities. She thought her precinct had one in storage, but it hadn't seen daylight in ages. Maybe people out west were just more prepared? She wondered if he would ask for her statement tonight, over the radio, or if he would wait until she could come into the station and give him a complete and written statement that she could sign. Although the radio would not be the most orthodox route, it was the best way to deliver a statement while ti was fresh in her mind. Maybe he'd record it and she could sign a transcript of it the following day?
