Lucky. Right. A hollow laugh escaped her at the notion. "Don't believe in luck, but I'm definitely glad to be alive either way." And just why should she believe in luck? It's not as though some divine interference with her life had helped out at any given point. She grew up fatherless (a fact that she was reminded of daily at home and at school), her mother had devolved into nothing more than a drunk who depended on welfare the last time she talked to her, and her sister had up and abandoned her without so much as an honest goodbye. If Lady Luck existed, she did not have eyes for Finley. That was perfectly fine too; Finley didn't spend her time feeling sorry for herself. Her life was what it was and she dealt with it accordingly. Now that she had a general idea of where Wren was, though, she was going to find her sister and give her a good piece of her mind.
She nodded when Jai described his work. She made a mental note about the bars, but she didn't think that she would be visiting any of them. On the one hand, she wasn't going to be around long enough to warrant drinking. On the other, she didn't really care for drinking anyways. It reminded her so much of her mother that it made her sick. But that was the kicker; Finley wanted to drink when she was upset and if she made it past the first few hard drinks, she didn't much care about if she was going to end up like her mother. "New York, huh? My grandparents lived there for a while. Irish too," she grinned. What? She was proud of her heritage, even if she didn't have the accent. "Moved to Maryland after a while, though. I think they wanted something a little quieter. I'm straight out of Baltimore myself."
The elevator shuddered and announced their arrival to the basement with a semi-sudden stop. Finley's smile faded and she slowly shifted her mind back to the task at hand. Surely there was an available officer to talk to them. She suddenly realized she had no idea what time it was; glancing down at her watch revealed the face was cracked and the glass splintered, making the numbers nearly indiscernible. Guess I need a new one, then.
