The very visible relief flooding the poor woman only made Jai feel worse. He hated lying. Despite the fact that he was currently having a revelation that he must have actually been pretty good at it, it was miserable business. He felt the need to fess up and ask for forgiveness, and of course, that just wasn't on the table at all. Not to mention the fact that there apparently really was a plane full of people that needed help somewhere out there, and he couldn't actually do a fucking thing to help them. He was still going to let this poor woman think they were okay. He had absolutely never hated the job so much as he did in that moment.
Still, he smiled, and lead her to the elevator. They weren't really supposed to take guests into the basement, but... hell with it. If the managers took issue with it, as far as Jai was concerned they could take it up with Christine. She'd put him in this bloody situation and he was doing the best he could. And of course she was a cop. That didn't make him feel worse at all. "I'm Jai Gunner," he introduced himself, hitting a button on the elevator. "So, what happened?"
