Cora felt awkward with Aiden seeing her at all, really. She knew that, despite her crush, they couldn't have any kind of a relationship. Relationships weren't her forte, they never had been, and she knew that despite wanting a life...this was her life. She had given herself up to a higher calling, trying to help people find their way, like the hotel had helped her.
If someone asked her to sit down and explain it, well. It would be hard to. She didn't feel any shame for what she did, not on the regular, but it took its toll. Socially. Emotionally. Mentally.
She glanced at him before she rolled a shoulder up in a gentle shrug. Her eyes stayed on the shadow of the building, the backlit horizon. "I appreciate it. I just get scared sometimes. That I might be stuck here forever. But...I choose to be here. I choose to help these people. It's not about money." It never was.
