That Hayes had ever been married was news to Jai, but he wasn't about to ask. Hayes seemed like the sort of boss who wouldn't entertain too much personal conversation, and Jai wasn't the sort of guy to push at people's boundaries. He figured they had to be divorced. He had a hard time imagining anyone leaving a spouse to work here, and hadn't Hayes been here a pretty long time? He thought so.
"She must be a very slow learner then," Jai said instead, sighing deeply. "I'm averaging at a couple of calls a week with her, and from what I can gather that's pretty normal. That girl has no sense of self-preservation."
