It didn't take much for Cameron's mind to start wandering, as it was wont to do. It wasn't so much a problem now as it had been in his school days, it had made it difficult to concentrate when whatever was being said or whatever was set in front of him didn't directly intrigue him in some way. It was only when the woman behind the desk -- her hair was a nice colour, that much he'd noticed right away, and it was made all the more appealing by her green eyes -- spoke to him that he snapped back to the present, to a reality in which he just felt worn down, figuratively and literally. This trip was supposed to be the start of something new, an open door to a second chance that he wasn't sure he deserved but wanted to at least try and chase, a goal that would be much easier to obtain if his old car hadn't chosen tonight to give out on him.
Cameron's smile of response was just as reserved as the one that had come before and he nodded. "Yeah. I didn't see a turn-off for this place." Not that he would have taken it even if he had, he hadn't been intending to stop anywhere for the night. The bottle of water surprised him and he hesitated, glancing around as if to check whether it might be for someone else. It was just the two of them. "Thanks." He was still tentative when he took it from the desk. Hopefully they wouldn't charge for that, and if they did that it wasn't much.
"Oh. Identification. Right." Setting the bag down -- he hadn't opened the water yet -- he pushed his hand into his pocket to retrieve his wallet. Opening it and retrieving the licence from inside required two hands though and he had to set the water bottle down again in order to pull the card from its slot so he could hand it over. "Sorry." As if he needed to apologise for fumbling. Simple actions felt that much more complicated when tiredness was thrown into the equation and for a few moments Cameron couldn't remember what the bottle on the desk was for. When he did he once again hesitated in taking it and when he did he had to set his wallet on the desk in its place so that he could twist off the cap and take a drink.
