She ought to consider herself lucky, but then how was she supposed to know he wasn't usually this amused and almost light-hearted? Regan wasn't even sure what it was, maybe it was her irritability that entertaining him or the fact that she was new and so completely out of her depth -- easy prey -- but whatever it was he couldn't help but laugh when she turned on him with that attitude, dripping with such obvious sarcasm that it was almost painful.
"I asked," he said, following her out of the elevator and heading in roughly the same direction -- he preferred something a little more solid for breakfast than her, it seemed -- as he pulled a face that might have been disappointment if he didn't still look so goddamn amused by the whole situation. "They passed. I was crushed, as you can imagine." With a smirk he added, "Maybe it was the language. A little too colourful, it might have put people off." As she started to head off -- at a stomp, he noticed -- towards the bar he called, "Try not to give the bartender a black eye on your first day, they kind of frown on that." Spoken like a guy who'd been there.
