Regan wasn't an early riser, not when he didn't need to be. With nowhere he needed to be and no one having any pressing need to see him or speak with him he was free to spend his time as he pleased and when he called it a night as late as he had last night he wasn't at all keen on leaving his room before he was good and ready. A little under half an hour ago he'd woken up, spent a further five minutes looking at nothing in particular and thinking about just as little, and then wandered into his bathroom to take a shower. It worked wonders for clearing his mind and he felt better afterwards, more awake and a little more relaxed. In his own room it was much easier to relax, to let go of all the tension that followed him around when there was always the possibility he would encounter someone he very much didn't want to spend time with but he had tried in the past to stay inside the entire day and it didn't work for him. The energy that started to build up with nowhere to go made him pace and that just annoyed him. He'd broken a lamp once, a chair another time. It was a vicious cycle.
When he stepped out of his room the last thing he expected to see was another person. Sometimes there were members of staff milling around, maids cleaning rooms or other employees carrying out various menial -- and in Regan's opinion quite often meaningless -- tasks but she didn't work for the hotel, he could tell that much right off. The way she was dressed for one thing, the state of her hair for another. Regan watched her for a minute, made no attempt to disguise it, and then he felt himself starting to smile. A small laugh slipped out of him as well, and he closed his door behind him without even needing to turn to do so.
"New girl," he said, straightforwardly and without even attempting to conceal his amusement. Now that he looked at her, really looked at her, he could see it clearly. Regan had been living at the hotel for almost a whole decade now and he knew a rookie when he saw one. "How do you like it so far?" A stupid question really, unnecessary too and for that reason alone it was also childish. It was plain to see that she wasn't happy, that she didn't want to be here, and Regan understood very well what that meant. She'd figured out she couldn't leave, and she hadn't liked that at all. Not one bit.
