Rules Really Do Exist For All of Us...
Just a reminder that the rules of the off_topic_cafe are located in our profile. If you're ever unsure, please check.
Because this came up earlier in the week, this is an OFF TOPIC asylum. This means any topic is welcome here so long as it fits within the parameters of the rules of this community. It's acceptable to "bump" a thread by referencing an earlier post.
A few common sense things that will get you banned if you haven't got any common sense: *Trying to moderate topics away because you believe they are off topic. Please don't. There is no such thing as off topic in an off topic asylum. Debating that...scares me. A lot.
*If I tell you that a thread is frozen, please do not continue that topic of conversation. I believe it is patently obvious when using IJ that one cannot "freeze" an entire thread; one can only stop replies to a certain comment. Just because, you *can* reply doesn't mean you should. If a mod or maintainer tells you it's frozen, drop it. It's okay to ask questions for clarification, but we don't want you to comment on whatever it is any longer. If you choose to persist, you will get warned and could get banned for it. No one wants that.
*Ban evasion --i.e. making or using another account to comment after you've been banned-- and copypasta personal emails within the community to continue drama will get you reported to abuse. At this time I remain unsure whether this is an "offense" as it is on LJ; it will still be documented and reported. I have absolutely no patience for this and won't play with it at all.
These feel very obvious to me and I think most of us understand them, even if we don't agree on all points. I am putting this there for folks who don't.
