The young man only looks confused. Jack isn't speaking any tribe language he knows but so many different people are on this coast now, close together. Not including the whites. Everyone is curious as to where Jack is from but his facial hair and the little boat are the only things making them suspicious. The brave is distrustful of this stranger but no one is guarding Jack with a weapon and he's being taken care of like one of their own.
The medicine man comes in. He and the brave speak to each other as the man explains that Jack is talking in a different language. Or he's still out of it. The brave speaks with a surety even though he doesn't really know what he's talking about. It sounds as if this is his normal tone of voice to everyone. The old man ignores him and peels back the fur blanket to examine the bandages on Jack's arm. He wiggles his fingers for Jack and flexes his own arm, wanting the pirate to do the same.
