One of the men holding Bastiaan shakes him. "//Do Englishmen always let other Englishmen go free? Even when they have barged onto their ship and attempted to take over?//"
Others laugh as they circle around and have a good look at the boy. One man hauls Bastiaan's shirt up to his shoulders and he's turned about while sailor's hoot and whistle between bouts of raucous laughter. They want to celebrate their freedom from debt as much as the other men who have gone ashore. Why not have a little fun at this boy's expense? Most of them just want to scare Bastiaan, anyway.
"//Get dice or straws! We need to know who gets him first!//" One shouts. "//I do, of course, I found him!//" says the first man, and others laugh and begin arguing how to decide order.
