The pirate prefers his own clothing, but theirs does well enough. He knows that his bother them and it's not worth the fuss. He imagines Englishmen and the like have hurt these people. He's seen first hand how white men see other cultures as a commodity and an inconvenience more than as people.
He lets her play with his hair. So many of the children and women seem to like doing that. Jack loves the feel of it, so he doesn't complain. He's been troubled by the tension in the camp as well, though. Mostly, he'd rather not be on the premises if there's a war brewing.
The quiet often hear more than others. Jack gestures to the tent where the men sit and argue. "Why?" He's forced to simple terms, but at least he can ask.
