Jack's clothes were taken from him to be washed. He has them back now but every time he tried to put them on it upset many of the children and some of the old people. Among them being Jack's benefactress, the ancient woman that's taken him in. The tribe Jack stays with consists of stranglers and survivors from several different tribes. His European style clothing is upsetting to many. His grasp on the language might be more impressive if the phrase 'how are you' was more then one simple word, 'Estonko'.
Once Jack is leaning back and a little more near her level she takes it as in invitation to climb in his lap and begin grooming his hair. But she looks somber. Several of the braves argue in a teepee away from them. It's been going on for the last two nights. The hostility in the camp hits the little girl the hardest.
