The handshake had indeed felt strange, but not in a bad way. Kyle did look like a big old stray cat, and Simon had to resist the urge to take him home and give him a good long flea bath. The mental image, did make him grin and duck his head. The Wild Child was certainly unique, Simon thought to himself. He eyed the other guy, so unself-consciously holding his board up like he was posing. He tore his eyes away, accustomed to be unfailingly distant at work.
He nodded when he heard the joint made a good burger. "I'll take your word for it," he muttered. He could see his non-date already at the front of the line, ordering. He had yet to make his hasty escape, even though now he wanted to stay and talk to Kyle some more. Kyle's rumbling tummy made him snort and look back up with a smile. "Whoa. Okay, so I won't... keep you, then. Let's... talk more sometime, okay? I... I need to get home," he offered awkwardly.
He saw his date inside turn around, tray in hand. Bugger! "Okay, see you then!" he said with a jerky wave and turned on his heel in a hurry. He tossed a puppy eyed look back over his shoulder, feeling bad to run off like that. "Bye!" he called out again, managing to stumble over his own two feet, missing a step. Thankfully, he didn't fall, or he would have just literally sank into the ground and never come out again.
