A Very, Very Bad Dream (For Noctsina)
Who: Stephanie Shaw
What: A very unpleasant dream
Where: Her bed
When: Approximately 2:30 am, the day Lourdes is kidnapped.
Rating: PG/PG-13 (potentially disturbing images)
Stephanie tossed and turned in her sleep. It had been the same dream for the last week, ever since her mother had announced her stupid plan to go to Europe. She was being taken, somewhere, deep underneath the Earth. The flatscans all wore black robes, singing Gregorian chants in unison while they calibrated the gigantic machines, all pointed at her mother. Stephanie herself tried to run up to fight them, to kill the horrible bastards for daring to try and touch her mother. But she could never, ever reach them in time. They always had the forcefield up.
The dark monk-scientists made another chant, as a gigantic frame for a syringe came down from the ceiling. They all got down to their knees as if to worship it, as if their science was the dark God that would save them from the rise of the mutants, who they regarded as hellspawn. The giant needle descended, the point becoming narrower and narrower as it slipped down, approaching her mother's ... oh God, Stephanie started to scream, pounding helplessly at the forcefield. It was going to go in her eye. Into her brain. It would kill her, but not before it sucked out all her thoughts, all her emotions, her very essence.
Even as she felt the pleasurable sensation of being filled with energy, bringing that power to bear against the field, she knew it was two late. It was only inches now. Her mother's eye flitted over to see her daughter, trying to break in in her peripheral vision. She frowned. You failed, Stephanie. You couldn't save me when I needed you. She didn't even scream as the needle penetrated, into the eye. Deeper. All the way to the centre.
Stephanie woke up screaming, the sheets soaked in cold sweat. Not again. Why did Father let her go on this trip anyway? Stephanie just hoped that she would hear from her mother soon, and that soon she would come home, where she could be safe.
