He had an intimate grasp of the biology that was Laurie. He could register minute changes in her brain chemistry, yet the cause and effect of her emotions seemed to elude him.
He wasn’t sure why he frustrated her.
He wanted to make her happy but he no longer knew how. Despite his heightened awareness on every level Jon realized he was missing something essential.
He knew he had lost her when she told him, “Dan understands what it’s like to be alone.” That was what she needed, what she wanted all along.
