Who: [info]onedayroger & [info]onedaylisa
What: Roger visits Lisa at St. Mungo's
When: Three Weeks after the Battle of Hogwarts
Where:St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries
Warnings: N/A
Completion Status: Ongoing Complete

Roger walked through the halls of St. Mungo's trying his best to ignore the moans he heard coming from the different wings that branched off from the main hallway. He navigated his way to the back of the hospital and he pushed open the last door on his right seeing several of his fellow schoolmates laid up in hospital beds. He scanned the room looking for Lisa's tightly curled brunette hair. He saw her lying in the last bed on the left still unconscious. He sat down in a metal chair at her bedside and exhaled a deep breath.

Lisa heard a sigh. She'd been napping, but luckily she'd convinced the mediwitch on duty that she didn't need a sleeping draught anymore. She'd been kept unconscious for about a week after the battle. All the better for it if you asked her; mending her smashed and broken left foot, and re-lodging her nastily dislocated right shoulder would've been right painful to be kept awake for. After that first week, they'd kept her in the medical bay to monitor her rather severe concussion. Lights and sounds still hurt a bit, and she had dizzy spells, but couldn't tell if those moments were from her concussion, the bruises that had covered her body from head to toe (bloody stupid castle rubble!), or the emotional toll of all she'd been through. She'd been grateful for the staff of Mungo's though, who had kept her up to date on the trials and the aftermath best they could - her Mother had tried to tell them not to, worried it would excite her too much, cause too much anxiety, but they'd kept telling Lisa the latest all the same.

Of course, one thing no one seemed able to tell her was who had found her in the first place. She knew she'd been brought to the hospital on the orders of Professor McGonagall, but that was all she knew. She couldn't remember exactly how she'd ended up under that pile of rubble anyway, but she considered that a small blessing as well. No use dwelling on it, right?

At the sigh that woke her, she groaned slightly as she slowly opened her eyes, the light in the hospital still feeling so harsh. Of course, the site that greeted her made her think maybe she was hallucinating. That wouldn't be a good sign in her recovery, now would it? And so she asked, barely above a whisper, almost to herself, "Roger?"

Roger went rigid, shoot straight up as he saw Lisa blink her eyes and squint in his direction. "You're not seeing things," he assured her in a low voice. He pushed his untidy hair back over his forehead as strands fell back into his eyes. He hadn't bothered to get it cut over months as he was self-conscious about the loose curls that refused to stay behind his ears.

As she turned to her head, he saw bruises on her neck and winced, "How are you feeling?"

Lisa couldn't help the quiet, relieved chuckle that escaped her. "Good to know, seeing things probably isn't progress," she lifted her voice a bit from the whisper it had been.

"I'm okay, mostly, Mungo's just wants to keep an eye on me. Concussions can be tricky, moody little things they said." She noticed his gaze hit her neck and the way he winced, "It looks worse than it is, I promise. I've been in here for four weeks now, it's just to keep an eye on me." Had she already said that? She kept her eyes nearly closed and then thought, "Oh, sorry to squint, the light hurts." She explained.

"How are you? You came out alright it seems." She said, no jealousy or resentment in her tone, just relief and happiness for him. Roger was a good one, it wouldn't do for him to have come out hurt or damaged or sad.

"I'm good," Roger looked away towards the rest of the room. Brussels had been a beautiful backdrop but after the first month or so it had lost much of its charm. "I walked through Diagon Alley a bit," he spoke up trying to pull his voice out of the low register he had greeted her in, "there's still a lot to be done."

He was speaking in generalities and it didn't seem to suit him. Seeing a good friend lying in one of these hospital beds made it all worse. Should he have been at the Battle himself? He had already flown as fast as he could as soon as the all clear was given.

He sat back in his chair, "I'm glad you're on the mend. I don't know what I would've done if your injuries were much worse than they were."

"Diagon?" Was she confusing things again? Her Healer had told her she might, and it might be many weeks, maybe even months, to be totally back to normal. "Was there a fight there, too?" She would have heard about that, wouldn't she have? What was he doing here now, unless he was hurt?

"Are you alright?" She asked, sudden concern flashing on her face and the muscle twitch making her wince with pain in the back of her head.

"What you would have done?" What did he mean? Lisa knew she'd been lucky, she knew other students had... Had died. She hadn't tried thinking about that much over the last few weeks, it made her head hurt.

Roger's eyes went wide, he hadn't tried to alarm her. Living with his brother Diagon Alley had become his home. "Sorry," he blurted out, "I might have mentioned that my brother worked for the Ministry so I spent more time in Diagon Alley than anywhere else." He took a breath hoping that reiterating this vital piece of information kept her from hitting any type of mania. "It's just different seeing it deserted when you're so used to the bustle."

He wondered if he should tell her that he was the one that pulled her from the rubble or not. He remembered too well what happened when he overexcited his teammates in the hospital wing at Hogwarts.

"Oh, you live in Diagon," she said, kind of catching on to what he was saying. "We were in Paris. I think Mum and Dad have moved back now, if not they're spending a lot of time here in London, that's for sure," they'd been by to visit her every single day.

"When did you come back?" She wanted to ask if he'd been there if he'd fought, but that seemed like such a... personal question, for some reason. Intimate. She wasn't sure if Roger was someone she could be intimate with, anymore. Then again, after her time in Paris, could she be that close to anyone? Did she even want to be?

"What are you doing here, Roger?" She asked, suddenly, as if a fog had lifted. He had been sitting right at her bedside, not simply walking past in search for someone else when he'd spotted her. Was he here to see her? That seemed... presumptuous of her to assume. Why would he be here to see her?

"The morning after the battle," he responded still attempting vague answers, "I flew from Belgium. My brother and I were there for the war, he should be drowning in a sea of paperwork at the moment."

He saw a light flash in her eyes as she mentioned her parent's visit but watched as it was replaced with the same confusion again. He hadn't fought in the battle and it felt shameful to admit seeing as the room was full of those that did fight.

He watched her eyes turn soft, like their night at the Astronomy Tower, and it made him want to tell her everything.

"I came here to see you," he admitted, his heart beating faster, "I needed you to be okay."

He could feel his heart beating in his throat and no matter how many times he gulped he couldn't seem to return it back to his heart. He pulled a water glass and pitcher from her bedside table and pour a glass for the two of them before taking a sip hoping it would help.

"You came to see me?" Lisa hadn't heard from Roger since he'd left. She didn't blame him, she didn't exactly stay in touch with anyone in England when she fled to Paris with her parents. Neville's emergency signal was really the only way anyone would have been able to get in touch with her, anyway. It still seemed off. She'd loved Roger when they were younger, but they'd both grown up.

"I'm okay," she said, her thoughts finally catching up with the conversation. "Concussions suck," she thought out loud and then gave him an exasperated smile.

"Yeah, I guess they do," Roger replied, his words trailing off, "I'm glad your okay and that you have had so many visitors." He drained the rest of his water glass and let out a small gasp.

He looked at her pained expression. It was all too much to explain to her, at least in her current state.

She seemed to have changed, not just grown up but changed in a way that he couldn't understand.

He gave her a more upbeat smile, "So what're your plans once you get discharged?" He hoped changing the subject to the future would keep her more upbeat and him from dwelling on the should'ves and could'ves.

Lisa laughed, "Just Mum and Dad," she admitted. She wasn't sure if any of her friends from school even knew she'd come back, let alone that she was in here. Her parents had stopped in quite a few times since she'd been awake at least. She wasn't sure about before.

She thought for a moment on his question, "Honestly? I'm not sure. I was working in coffee shops and bartending in Paris, that's all I've ever really done..." She wasn't sure if the Leaky Cauldron was hiring. "I suppose I can go back to that." Was she moving back to England though? She didn't know. "I think Mum and Dad are planning on moving back if they haven't already. What about you? Are you headed back to Brussels?" Surely he had a life there.

"I don't think so," he admitted, "it was beautiful for sure but it's not where I want to be."

He thought to his years walking Diagon Alley and the surrounding city of London during the summer holidays. Catching a football game on Sundays and listening to the Quidditch matches when he could.

"I think I stay in London," contorting his face into a smirk, "it's too much a part of me to leave. Maybe, I'll open a flying school and teach Quidditch fundamentals or something."

He shoulders dropped for the first time since he had walked in and he relaxed back into his chair, "It's exciting to think about, isn't it?"

"Oh! Somewhere new then? I can definitely recommend Paris, it's beautiful. Have you ever been?" She wondered what he'd done the last two years. Had he been in Brussels the whole time? Or had he left when most people had fled?

"A school? Like, outside of Hogwarts? Or for little kids?" Lisa would have loved learning to fly while still so little - she'd never quite got the hang of it once lessons started during first year.

"I don't know about exciting... Overwhelming, for sure." She laid back a bit further, mirroring his relaxing move without realizing it. "I've never really thought of life after the war, it's been so... Constant, you know?" Lisa had grown up with Harry Potter, after all. Normally she would have been thinking about her future for the last year, not about fleeing her country and drowning her anxieties in bad relationships and booze.

"I probably would have enjoyed Paris more." Roger chuckled as she leaned back in her hospital bed. "Brussels was my brother's idea, he's quite the survivalist. Had a safehouse and everything set up already when we got there. I don't think I'll ever fly the way muggles do ever again though, too scary."

He saw her turn when he mentioned the flying school. He had thought about it when his broom had been locked away in Belgium and it felt so simple that someone would have had to think about it before but he had never heard of one.

"Yeah," he continued, "just something for wizards and magical muggles just to get them accustomed to flying before Madam Hooch gets ahold of them. Do you remember trying to get that broom to move for the first time?"

He made and face, crossing his eyes as a few strands of hair fell into his face.

"You flew the muggle way? Like in a plane? That's fascinating!" Lisa was a halfblood, but had never been in a plane. She found it amazing that a plane could fly.

"Oh please, you probably came out of the womb with a broom in hand, I'm sure you didn't have any problems first year. Me on the other hand... I'm still not very adept." She understood the intellectual aspects of flying magic, but it had just never clicked physically for her.

"How do you think you'd go about doing that? Starting a school, I mean?" It was nice to talk about something totally unrelated to the war or her injuries for the first time in weeks.

"I don't know if I'd ever get the hang of muggle flying," Roger admitted shuddering at the thought. "It's a little too confining for me." He let out a chuckle as they continued to talk.

"I'm sure the first thing would be to talk a lender at Gringotts and make sure the capital is there to jumpstart the business. I'm trying to decide if I want it to be a profit or nonprofit first, to be honest." As he began to brainstorm he realized how much would have to go into this for it to work.

"I might talk to the owner of Quality Quidditch Supplies and see if they can point me in the right direction, maybe even donate some of their more outdated models as practice brooms."

"Did it feel like you were in a sardine can?" She asked with a giggle.

"Donations would be great. And money of course." How did one go about starting a business? "I'm sure people would appreciate something fun like this, though, kids nowadays haven't known much... fun." She scrunched up her nose, thinking about the younger children, remembering watching kids leave Umbridge's detentions crying and in pain, saying goodbye to her younger friends before fleeing with her parents... It wasn't a comforting thought, but knowing that people like Roger were doing things - or at least, planning to do things - to make the future more carefree and fun made her feel good.

"It's a little terrifying," he let out a wheezy laugh, "it that thing starts going down you can't disapparate out of there. You've got nothing but muggles around you!"

Roger looked around realizing his was almost shouting in an otherwise quiet hospital ward.

"I really think the only comforting thing was hearing a voice without seeing the person. At least that felt like magic."

Lisa chuckled lightly, "I'm sure the Ministry would make an exception if you were disapparating from a plane going down," she gave him a look.

The laughter seemed to have been too much though and she leaned further back into her pillows, dizzy suddenly. She was really looking forward to her brain getting back to normal.

"Roger, since you're staying in London, do you think you'll visit again?" The dizziness seemed to be dragging her down, back into the depths of sleep.

Roger watched as Lisa leaned her head back against the pillow her eyes shut tight. "Definitely," Roger's mouth curled into a pleasant smile, "get some rest."

Standing up from his chair he turned and walked towards the door.
