It’s the year 2008 and the winter Olympics are in two years. Professional hockey players (read: NHL player) have been banned from playing in the Olympics, and after an embarassing
performance in Italy, Canada is sick of losing and will do anything it takes to assemble the best team possible. Because of that, a group of 32 young men, ages 18-24 have been assembled
to try out for the chance to represent their country. Only 18 players and 2 goalies will make the team so competition will be intense for these spots. Tempers will get heated at times.
Hockey, after all, is a rough sport.
To be sure that the team is focused, Hockey Canada has built a state of the art training facility in a remote area of Alberta where the team will live together dorm style and train long and hard.
The closest town is Swan Hills, AB - a town of 1650 people which is over 2.5 hours and 140 miles from Edmonton - which the facility was named after.
All players will be bussed to the location, players are not permitted to bring personal vehicles (staff however are allowed). To be sure that no one becomes too “comfortable”, roommates will
be frequently switched around to ensure teammates get to know one another both on and off the ice. Roommate assignments are at the head coach’s discretion.
There is a small town a few kilometers away and there will be some time where the players are permitted to relax by going into the town. However most of their ‘free time’ will be spent within
the confines of the training compound with no one but the team, coaches, and some staff on hand.
