A room without books is like a body without a soul

Who: Claire and John
When: Early evening, before dinner
Where: Homer's Library

The ship was huge, much bigger then she had imagined, but the library was relatively small and Claire didn't mind so much. It was easier to watch over a smaller place, she had come from such big libraries that it was almost a relief for there to be only one level. She shelved books with ease and even took a few moments to peruse the titles and sniff the pages, which was one of her favourite things about books. The musty old smell or the newer and crisp smell of the pages. She smiled to herself, as long as she was around shelves of books she was at home but she knew the homesickness would set in sooner rather then later if she sat too long. With that in mind she whisked around the tables, picking up books and periodically shushing people.

Who: Sophie and John
When: Mid-morning
Where: Their room

Sophie had been initially a little peeved when she'd heard that there were two VIP suites on board the ship and she hadn't been given one, but it swiftly dissipated upon seeing the suite she'd been assigned. Four bedrooms and classy, it had everything she could possibly have wanted for her home away from home while cruising to Bermuda and back. Their bags had already been delivered by the porters, and she set her purse down on the kitchen counter as Sarah made noises about heading off to book the spa appointments Sophie was interested in.

"This is actually really great," she told John, cradling Lola as she took a slow look around the living area. She'd bypassed the two bedrooms off the front entry; they weren't the master so she didn't much care. The tiny Yorkie looked to be exhausted from the trip from hotel to ship, and was content to stay nestled in Sophie's arms, little body dishrag-limp with relaxation and eyes half-closed. She peeked in the fridge, beaming at the selection of all her favorites - Fiji water, fresh fruits and vegetables, a few other guilty-pleasure snacks she indulged in occasionally - and looked at the bar with approval. Not that she was the type for loud indulgent parties in her room - that's what the clubs were going to be for - but the option to stay in and drink was one she appreciated. "I totally expected places on this ship to be... oh, I don't know," she said, waving a hand idly. "More... nautical. Thank God it's not, I so don't do gold-embroidered anchors or whatever."

Flashing a grin back at John, she meandered into the master bedroom and paused for a moment to sigh happily. She could see the jacuzzi tub from where she stood - check - and set Lola down on one of the pillows covering the big bed as she danced to the balcony doors and pulled them open to let in the sun and sea air. If there was one thing Sophie had quickly grown to love while living in L.A., it was the smell of the ocean that permeated the air whenever one was close enough to the beach to escape the smog that usually covered the city. "Perfect," she pronounced. "Even though it's not labeled VIP, it's probably one of their secret VIP suites. You know, so people can't figure out where you're staying and mob the doors."
