Any pretense at being apologetic disappeared the moment Lei ordered drinks for the two men. Sitting up straighter, he gave his sister a disapproving look and quickly signed: Don't do that. You're going to give them ideas! He knew what guys thought of Asian chicks, and he didn't like guys thinking that about his sister.
The waitress walked to the bar and waited, then carried the drinks to the two guys. All three turned to look at them and Jake scowled -- first at Lei, then at the Aussies.
You are so dead, he signed as the men stood, strolling casually to their table, clearly curious about the couple.
"You sent us the drinks?" one asked Lei, nearly leering, and Jake coughed.
"Naw, I did," he snapped. "I thought you two looked dreamy." Both men glanced from Jake to Lei before one laughed.
"What are you, her boyfriend?" the other asked.
"Better than that. Her brother." The first Australian relaxed then, dropping a hand onto the table to lean over close to Lei.
"How about you join us for breakfast, doll?" he suggested, reaching for Lei's plate of waffles.
