The sudden shift in her attitude was nearly jarring and he frowned as she closed her eyes. Raising an eyebrow questioningly he left the subject, deciding to just it pass because it was broaching on awkward territory. Instead he took another large gulp from his glass and felt it burn it's way down to his stomach. With a shock he realized he drank nearly the whole thing. Oops. "Hey, you don't know that for sure," he said, touching her shoulder reassuringly and giving her a big grin. "I think you're very interesting, actually." Which was the truth, there was something about Lily that made Cary curious and just the slightest bit happy that they kept bumping into each other.
"It's all perception. I mean you're probably interesting, complex and mysterious to someone, maybe you just haven't found 'em yet." Cary gave her another smile and downed the rest of his drink. Making eye contact with the bartender he held up two fingers and laid down some money. Enough, he hoped, to cover their drinks. "Well then, why don't we enjoy ourselves right here in 1920?" Handing her a drink, grabbing his own and then holding out his arm for her to take.
