"But if the cruises were like this one, you'd never have cold feet." Lily added, smiling at the sheer thought of living her life going from one cruise to the next. She was already fanning herself with her left hand, anyway, the last thing she felt was cold.
Lily looked at Cary in thought. "You think so? You think everyone is sad?" That was, in itself, a sad thought to begin with. Not that she was a fine example of the contrary, given she couldn't - or could, but wouldn't - remember the last time she'd felt truly happy. "That's all very sad. That people don't notice or ask about others being sad." Sometimes she wished they would, but she didn't tell him this.
Finally, Lily decided to snap out of it, and turned around on the rails again. "Well, then, this place might be the place to get you less sad, right? And me, too. I say we should work on that." God knew she'd wallowed enough. "Even if it's doing superficial stuff that only makes us happy on a superficial level. Like going to parties, or sunbathing, or swimming." She smiled.
