Lenny was honestly trying not to let any of this bother him. He'd watched the political climate shift over the last couple years, and he'd genuinely never felt more relieved to be on the road, touring other countries, than the last year while the Death Eaters had been in power. But while his body may not have resided in England, his mind had been there nearly the whole time. He was sure his parents would be fine, his older brother too. But Lyle? Lyle was like him. Lyle had magic--magic he couldn't 'prove' he didn't steal, and made him a target. Lenny was lucky. People knew who he was. Well. They knew who Chaz was, Lenny was just the guitarist that the frontman had successfully argued for. Only if Lenny was a good boy and kept his mouth shut, however. If he could be a shining example for all muggleborns, he could stay free. But it had never really felt free. People who were free didn't have to watch everything they said or did. They didn't have to stay out of contact from their family to prove they had cut ties with the muggle world. Free people tended to know whether their brothers were alive or dead. Lenny was lucky, even if it didn't feel that way, and he was still lucky, even when his best friend's sister decided to say things about muggleborns and then insist she hadn't been rude or insulting. Despite Chaz's defense, Nyx's words cut at him in a way that reminded him just how not fine with everything he truly was. And as such, he needed to get out of the flat. 'A walk', he told Chaz, but they both knew what a walk alone meant. It meant cards. Now, Lenny didn't have a problem with gambling, because it wasn't something he did all the time. It wasn't even something he did every week. He only played when he really needed a distraction, when he was upset or angry. The only sign that it might be problematic, other than the fact that he used card games as a pick-me-up, was that he wanted to be alone when he did it. He didn't like people seeing him lose, and sometimes he lost a lot when he was too worked up about whatever was bothering him--usually the Ministry. After he lost everything he brought with him, that was when he tended to go on his walks. Tonight, he'd lost faster than usual and hadn't won nearly enough to make up for it, so the effect hadn't been what he'd hoped for. He didn't actually feel better. Maybe he even felt worse. What he did know was that he wanted a drink, despite the fact that a drink would also probably not help. Chaz said he'd have beer and pizza once he got back, but Lenny wasn't ready to talk about it yet. Instead, he headed to the Leaky in the hopes that a drink would...well, do literally anything. |
