"That's the deal, feathers," she said, smirking and tilting the bottle back and forth to make the liquid slosh. "This stuff is supposed to be better than whiskey when it comes to knocking you on your ass. And I'll give you as much as you need for one little answer. I'll even make it official and seal it with a kiss if you want me to," she winked and let her eyes flip black for barely a second, before returning them to normal. She hadn't done that in quite some time. Being around him, it made her downplay her demon more and more. She was softer with him. Kinder with him. She might have been mortal, like him, had anyone seen them together. But she wasn't mortal. She never could be again.
This wasn't fair. She knew that, and she was doing it anyway. He had no way of knowing that she was absolutely getting the better end of this deal. She'd have given him the medicine anyway, truth be told. Even if he refused her deal, she'd still give it to him. She couldn't stand seeing him suffer and if she could make that stop, she would. Still, she had to know. She had to see what he would do. Her only hope was that, once she had his answer, she wouldn't regret asking the question.
