There was a moment of pause, that trepidation because Castiel had no idea how Meg would react to his attempt to hold her hand. He thought, in a way, he'd been doing well, that she would be receptive to it. They'd exchanged various human moments over the course of his time in Oakdell, whether it be kisses or sharing a bed or watching television. But, holding her hand was not something he'd done before and that was part in why he wanted to do it. He wanted to experience something he'd not done. He didn't have reasons to hold someone's hand before and being on a date, a normal, human date, that was something he thought was reason worth holding her hand. It would continue the trend toward normal and human.
"I... yes." He'd stammered a moment, not sure how to respond because he watched her carefully, the way her reaction seemed none too pleased with the situation. "I thought that is what one does on a normal, human date. I've never held someone's hand before, never had any reason to do so. I wanted to know what that felt like." He could think or imagine on what it felt like, thanks to what he'd seen of others, but he never had the proper experience of it and he was curious as to what it was like. "But if you would rather that I don't hold your hand, I understand."
