When they hit the boardwalk, Meg slowed her steps minutely. She did love being near the sea. It was one of the small consolations being stuck in Oakdell had. She could watch it for hours on end, and had, in fact, done just that. The second night Castiel had stayed with her, she'd laid in her lounge chair on her small patio, just watching the waves all night, with him sleeping peacefully behind her. It was as close to heaven as a creature like her could hope to get.
Not far away, the sun glinted off metal extending out into the ocean. The pier was a tourist trap if ever there was one. It's bright chrome ferris wheel looked as though it might topple into the ocean at any moment and the short, low roller-coaster looked so unsafe it was a miracle people were lining up to get on the damn thing. The smell of fried food and grease wafted through the air, mixing with the salt smell of the sea. It wasn't unpleasant, oddly enough. Meg could hear children laughing and gulls crying and, for a few moments, she felt decidedly human. And, for the first time, she didn't cringe away from the feeling. She thought about how nice it would be, to come to a place like this with someone she cared about, with no worries beyond junk food and stolen kisses.
"That's where we're going," she supplied, indicating the pier. "A completely normal, human date. I'm sure it'll be nauseating." She smiled at him, to soften the sarcasm. Odd as it was, she actually wanted to do this. Oh she didn't think anything out there would really be enjoyable, but she would be with him, and that would make it worth doing. She continued at her slow pace, however, enjoying, for the moment, his company, the sea, and nothing more.
