The sound of heavy footsteps on the pavement gradually lessened as Sloane made her way through a back alley, and through a chain linked fence that was supposed to keep out the rif raff. The night back here was still, there was no sound of people conversing, though she could still hear the sound of traffic from back out on the street. Muffled sounds of dogs barking, and the wind at her back, she finally came to a stop at the usual spot. It was secluded. No one ever came back here, back in the depths of warehouses and where it was entirely likely that someone had died a couple of months ago but not found until it was far too late. She could still smell it, even though it had been weeks. Sloane waited until she heard the other sound of someone approaching. Cloaked from head to toe, the imposing figure was at least a foot larger than her. Not that this was some clandestine meeting, but it was prudent to keep things as close to the vest as possible. She didn't bother to look him up in his eyes, nor actually greet him. This wasn't about pleasantries. This was about information, and a price to be paid. He didn't bother to pull down his hood. She couldn't hear the telltale sounds of anyone else's heart beating. Neither had she found anyone else loitering about when she had done a perimeter check. It never hurt to be extra careful. She just hoped that this information was good enough to warrant all of this. He finally turned towards her, clearly finding that this was secure. "I don't have a lot," he said quietly. "If you didn't have anything then why did you contact me?" "Because I know that something is going on. And they're trying to keep it quiet. Which means that it's important. And big." He might not have been wrong about that part. Though Sloane wasn't actually convinced. "Is there something that you do know then? I'm not sure that this information is worth the price you're asking." "The Hounds are out. They're looking for more, which means that whatever happened is bigger than just the ones that they have." Sloane nodded her head slightly, "Yeah. I kind of figured that but it's nice to have a confirmation. Thanks for letting me know." She pulled something out of her pocket and handed it over to the man, who took it and slid it into his jacket pocket. With that, the man took a step back, turned on his heels and then he was gone. Into the shadows, one moment there and the next moment vanished. She waited only a moment, and then Sloane did the same thing. |
