Amadeus stared at the ledger and the name for a moment longer before he closed it and passed it over to Ariel with a now. He could see why Alex would keep it in a safe. A touchstone such as this was easily damaged or worse. That was the thing about one's touchstone being a physical thing—they could be more fragile than humanity itself.
"The Ventrue respected him not because he came from some wealthy family but because he made himself into what he was. A slave who's master thought to not even let death give him freedom. So Alex took his freedom for himself and used his former master's assets to raise himself up within the clan so that he wasn't just someone's property anymore." It was clear from the way he talked that the Ventrue were not the only ones who respected him for it.
Double-checking the safe to make sure there was nothing else in, Amadeus closed it before glancing around the room one last night. "I don't think we're going to find anything else here. We should probably start cleaning up."
